It's called Amelie and it is one tremendously beautiful film. It's right up there for me with Memento as the best movie I've seen all year. Forget that Behind Enemy Lines crap that you're seeing this weekend and go see something special like Amelie. :)

I heard it was good, but it's limited playing in DC so I haven't seen it.

The guy who directed Amelie is named Jean-Pierre Jeunet. He also directed Alien Resurrection, as well as two other French films called Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children. These last two are both amazing films that everyone should see.

I saw Amelie a week ago. The direction is just great. And, unlike most French movies, I wasn't utterly confused with the ending.

    I thought Alien Resurrection sucked.

Does the movie have any strange filming techniques like Memento?

Behind Enemy Lines was pretty good.

You mean the way Memento goes backward?

Amelie (at least in parts) goes by very fast. You get a lot of story in a short amount of time. I'd call it a strange filming technique, but I don't know if you would.

Dude, Behind Enemy Lines was horrible. It's up there as one of the worst of the year.

Yes, I realize that fans of the Alien series didn't like this one much, but I don't think you can deny that it is visually fantastic. Also, I think you can only fully appreciate Juenet's take on the Alien serial if you've seen the other two films I mentioned, Delicatessen and The City of Lost Children.

I went into the movie not expecting too much so I actually liked it, plus I only paid 5.50 for the tickets.

If they would have chosen any other actor besides Owen Wilson, even his brother Luke or Mark Walhberg or anyone else that would have made it much better. I would have preferred an unknown.

Besides that I liked the plot and the filming in the actions scenes. Like the f-18 trying to avoid the missles and when the seat ejected.

Like I said though, I had low expectations and it beat those. Overall a 6 out of 10.

I hadn't seen an action flick in a while either - especially a military themed one. Good Timing with the war and everything else.

You lost all credibility with that statement about Owen Wilson. :)

I agree that the F-18 scenes were cool, but the rest was horrible. Like the scene where he gets shot at while he's resting on the cement hill (or whatever it was). He's hanging from a pole and the guy is waiting for him, looking through his scope, waiting to shoot him. Cut to next scene of him walking away. WTF?? There was more stuff like that throughout the movie in addition to its ultra-cheesy ending.

You want a good military action movie? Go see The Last Castle.

Heard Spy Game was good too. Did you really like the Last Castle?

Some parts were Cheesy, I'll give you that, but that kinda stuff flies when everyone is feeling all patriotic like now. :D

You can't tell me you like Owen Wilson as a lead character. He is great as a side character (Armageddeon, Meet The Parents) but he talks too much to be a lead. And please get that freaking nose fixed.

Spy Game was awesome. Yeah, I loved The Last Castle.

There's not one thing, besides Behind Enemy Lines, that I haven't liked Owen Wilson in. He was great in the lead in Shanghai Noon and Bottle Rocket, and I can't wait for him and Gene Hackman to make up for this debacle with The Royal Tennebaums.

I saw Behind Enemy Lines last week and I didn't really like it that much. It had some cool action but that jiggling camera thing they did just made me dizzy. I did like that slow motion thing where they would slow certain scenes down and stop the sound. Overall it was just a below average action film with little substance at all for me.

As for Amelie, it doesn't have the flashbacks and stuff of Memento but it's just an amazing movie. In fact it's probably the opposite of Memento in that it's a really simple film but it's so well done that the simplicity of it is kind of refreshing. Go see it, you won't be sorry.

For the life of me, I don't understand the Memento phenomenon. I think that my friend and I are the only two people in America not to spooge after seeing that movie. I thought maybe I was in a bad mood or something, so I watched it again, but no, did absolutely nothing for me.

Yeah, I gave The One too high a grade, but I loved The Last Castle.
