I went to a buddy's house last night to help him with his problematic computer. I got frustrated with it and just decided to F-disk the hard drive and reload XP. I had brought over my Simpletch card reader and a 512MB CF card in case it was needed, and I used it to back up his files.

I was tired, frustrated, and he wouldn't keep quiet.....and I did something TOTALLY stupid.

When I used the XP disk to delete the partitions on his harddrive, I had left the card reader in the USB port, and the partition on the CF card showed up. As I'm sure you can already guess....I deleted the partition on the CF card. I never re-formatted it, and I see there are a few utilities out there that "might" be able to retrieve the files.

Has anyone worked with any of these, and does anyone know if one in particular will work?

Before the XP format, a utility to use was Roxio Go Back Deluxe. Also, you could try PartitionMagic. But now w/ the card partition deleted, I think it's highly unlikely to retrieve the files.

not necessarily...I have used several programs that could find files on deleted partitions..

Ontrack's Easy Recovery Pro is one I would try...

I have used a couple of others over the years who's names escape me at the moment..but I have had good success lately with Easy Recovery.

Sweet program Rockets2K....it looks like it will work (I can see the files in their demo program....although I'm not sure the data is worth the price.

    Still, thanks a bunch.

Darn....I hadn't used that account in over a month, and they made me reactivate it. The inbox was empty. Would you mind resending your message? Also, I'll email you from a different account.

    Thanks for your trouble.
