Kojima is getting a codec message on stage and has a MG-branded cell phone. There's going to be a 3D Metal Gear Solid cell phone game. Looks between MG1 and 2 in quality. Release date and price TBA. Sony will be releasing a special MG-branded phone with the game pre-installed on it.

The level is a broken city, but not dusty like MGS4; more dark dirt and pale grey concrete -- it's a completely war torn city. Graphics looks on a similar level to MSG4, probably the same engine.

There's also a way to scan your enemies information and steal it from them. If you can hold them for a certain amount of time,
you get the same vision you have for your teammates, for your enemies as well. They pulse orange while your friends pulse blue
so you can see all your enemies wherever they are, even thru walls, etc.

It looks like each character. has different skills. This player has 'scanning lv 1', 'asslt r mastery 1', 'and CQC mastery 1'. They will start the beta test for MGS, a closed beta test, 3,000 people. Stars July 24th and ends August 6th.

After death, the player gets a menu of items and weapons to choose from before respawning. Kojima choses a nudie mag again and plants it--an enemy quickly falls for it. While he's busy looking, the solider jumps on him just like snake did in the MGS4 demo, strangling him until he's unconscious. While he's down, the player rubs it in by actually 'spanking' the other player.

Orders are barked back and forth between soldiers via an auto menu. A map in the upper right of the screen shows the level lose by and the location of your teammates.

They spot some mines planted by the enemy and shoot to take them out. Kojima explains that the game system allows you to gather information by scouting, and automatically share it with your teammates. The game is usually form a detached third person perspective, but zooms in close when you aim your weapon, ala Splinter Cell. You can also go into first person

The game comes up on screen, five players are visible, all 3rd person. 4 of them have their name and kojipro' above their heads -- up top is the time remaining, 11:02, and the score for each side (red and blue). It looks like its all tied up at 99.

They begin to move; the player can see where his teammates are
as their silhouettes (pulse) every few seconds. You can see them thru walls, thru a cardboard box, anywhere -- the effect is awesome! It's a great idea that brings to mind Halo 2's teammate tag, but now you can see this actual silhouettes so you can see what they are doing, if they are crouched, etc.

today they will demo with 6 on 6. The two guys on stage will be the leaders of the two factions, the rest of the players will join from the Kojima Productions offices nearby. The main concept of MGO, apparently, is hide and seek.

Now, they will announce something new: METAL GEAR ONLINE for PS3, release and price TBA. Kojima intros another guy to the stage to talk about the game--Matsuhana, producer of MGO. They ask the audience to please not shoot what they are about to show
a few more of the KO staff come to stage to get behind the controllers.

He tosses a grenade into the PMC position and it blows up, lighting one guy on fire. He attacks with a gun now, from behind sandbags. Snake equips an RPG now and goes into first person, blows a sniper off one of the roofs with it, getting a thumbs up from his comrades on the green side. Idle for a moment, Snake rubs his aching back
and the demo ends with a laugh from the audience and applause.

They seem like the new Metal Gears in a way, organic yet machine.

Snake waits back behind a truck, and choose the Metal Gear Mark II from his inventory. He controls it remotely with what looks like a PS3 controller; he can switch to view things 1st person from its perspective. It can also cloak and become invisible. It sneaks up behind a soldier and shocks him with his snake-like tentacle (ala the trailer we've seen before).

Again, Snake enters the battlefield. Explosions rock the ground around him, distant explosions and gunfire go off now and then, as Snake equips a grenade from his back and a tracer ala Gears of War starts to to show its arc. He sneaks thru the rubble, approaches more enemies. He;s now snuck behind the green soldiers line --
bad timing, as a large armored troop (that we saw escorted by Metal Gears in the first TGS trailer) appears and start firing on his position. Snake equips his Solid Eye to tell the targets from the rubble.

Speaking of first person, now Snake uses the view to aim his gun, including moving while still aiming in first person, he backs out of the view to the more tradition 3rd person to take care of two new guards. When they approach, he retreats in to a dumpster and watches them. Choosing his pistol, he goes back into first person and takes them both out. Getting out of the dumpster, he walks past the fallen guards and into a cutscene. Its basically a recut version of the very first TGS cutscene with Otacon on his mini-metal gear Mark II.

They skip the cutscene. More soldiers--these look different from the professional contractors we saw before. These new guys are in green fatigues. Snake exits the building as a group of the new soldiers encounters the old tan-wearing PMCs. As they fight, strange bat-like things fly over head.

From his overview second floor of a building, Snake looks over the battlefield. Choosing a sniper rifle, Snake takes out two guards from long range, then he equips a knife from his weapons menu on the right side of the screen; he shows off how is carries an electric charge which can disable troops. Snake sneaks up to a guard from behind with his knife, and shocks him with it from behind, he falls down immediately.

Two more soldiers are approaching--Snake jumps under a barrel (also seen in trailer). When the guards run, he rolls over the two guards, but when he gets up he's so dizzy he throws up. Next, he piks up a p*rn mag from his inventory. Now, its got more pages--he flips thru it, several pretty girls in bathing suits -- its puper high res as he looks at it in first person

Snake umps down and starts walking around -- the game looks FANTASTIC, smooth and detailed -- and as Snake nears a wall, a prompt appears below, showing the triangle button to hug the wall and take on its camo. Snake lies down on the ground and takes up its tile pattern; waits for a guard to pass, then attacks him from behind. He wrestles him to he ground and slowly strangles him as he strangles him. He leaves him unconscious.

Another guard approaches -- he lies down again and take on the ground camo, and a guard walks right by unaware. Snake holds him up from behind, walks up and pats him down while still training a gun on him, and the guard whimpers as he gives up goods. Snake has what he wants, so he hits him in the nuts and takes him down, unconscious.

Snake takes out the next guard the old fashioned way, aims his gun from an over the shoulder perspective and shoots him in the head.

Now, we will see a real-time demo of MGS4.

Kojima tells him he better play well and don't get caught. The game comes up -- Snake is looking over the same middle eastern sandy dusty battlefield we've seen in the other trailers. In the lower left he pops up the familiar time menu and choses the Solid Eye Scope. He zooms in on a set of soldiers patrolling off in the distance. Snake jumps down and walks over to a statue, brings up a sub menu, camouflage, and choses statue cam. He stands next to another statue and takes on its appearance, grabbing the crotch of the statue next to him, just like in the trailer.

He looks around while a group of guards patrol next to him, but doesn't move. Once the guards are gone, he brings up the menu and removes the face and body camp.

Eva is in MGS4! Snakes love interest from MGS3. We see a render of her character, she is wearing dark military pants and a tan overcoat, with a pistol at her side, and dark eyes -- her face is lined and she definitely looks her age. She ditched the bikini top as well.

Kojima is back on stage, doing his best vamp imitation of the last line of the trailer. He says they will announce tonight new voice actors in MGS4. A famous Japanese director Shinya Tsukamoto will be doing the voice of vamp; he is now talking in a pre-taped message to the audience. Shock! He?????s saying he enjoyed the experience; as someone who gets hurt a lot but cant die (vamp) he got to scream a lot.

At Sony Computer Entertainment's PlayStation Premiere 2007 press conference in the massive Roppongi Hills complex today, most in attendance were expecting to see reruns of trailers shown at the E3 Media and Business Summit. So they were taken by surprise during Konami's presentation, when director Hideo Kojima gave the first-ever Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots gameplay demonstration.

The demo, which lasted a full 20 minutes, began in the same unnamed Middle Eastern locale as previous MGS4 game trailers. Snake started out on the second floor of a ruined building. Looking down, he saw tons of rubble from the remnants of buildings obliterated by warfare. The landscape was particularly detailed, with walls broken into various shapes and surrounding buildings uniquely damaged. When Snake zoomed in on the walls using a scope named Solid Eye (after the 3D glasses from Metal Gear Acid 2), they showed a high level of detail with little or no pixelation up close.

While previous installments in the MGS series had Snake infiltrating areas that were guarded by a single superpower or army, the situation is vastly different in MGS4. The demo shows two different factions--professional PMC (Private Military Company) mercenaries, and civilian guerrillas, who were losing because they were less experienced. The demo started out quietly, with both sides just patrolling. By the end, though, there were explosions all over the place.

During the demo, Kojima had Snake side with the civilian army to help take out the PMC soldiers. Given that the PMC soldiers were wearing beige camouflage, it was difficult to spot them in the sandy fields and grayish walls. Kojima had Snake switch to thermal goggles to detect them, and then return to the normal scope to zoom in.

Hopping down the building from where Snake started, the aged soldier approached a set of familiar bronze statues last seen in the Tokyo Game Show trailer. Here, Kojima went to the menu screen and selected the active camouflage option, where players can access disguises for Snake's face and body. Snake normally wears an all-purpose "Octo-Cam" camouflage suit, which lets him blend into his surroundings. However, apparently there are other selectable camouflage patterns in the game, one of which is called the "Statue-Cam." Kojima selected the Statue-Cam and an appropriate face mask, and--voila!--Snake's camouflage suit displayed a bronze finish. The PMC soldiers then walked by, mistaking the grizzled commando for a statue.

Kojima then showed off how the Octo-Cam camouflage will help Snake blend into his surroundings--semiautomatically. Whenever Snake performs an action, like hugging a wall or hitting the floor, the suit automatically changes its pattern to match that of the surface Snake is touching. Kojima demonstrated this action by having Snake evade a PMC soldier by lying in wait on the ground and blending in with the tiles of a nearby building. Snake then stood up and dashed to the shadows by a wall, waiting for the soldier to walk past. Then, he took the soldier from behind by using close-quarter combat, which made the soldier drop his gun--a new element in MGS4. Snake finally wrestled the soldier down, choking him until he was knocked out.

Kojima revealed that Snake can take his enemy's weapons in MGS4, and CQC isn't the only way to get them--holdups can also be effective. When Snake put a gun against an unaware soldier, the grunt raised both of his hands in the air, dropping his weapon to the ground and shivering. The holdup in MGS4 looks a lot more realistic than in the previous games. While keeping his gun pointed at the enemy, Snake used his other hand to frisk for items all over the soldier's body. He also seems to have gained a new move that involves delivering a death grip to an enemy's crotch, rendering that person unconscious in an instant.

After taking out two soldiers (one through CQC and the other by holdup and grabbing his nether regions), Snake spotted a huge hole in the wall that was big enough for him to fit though. However, he then noticed PMC soldiers in other abandoned buildings that could easily spot Snake and shoot him down. Kojima had Snake switch to his Mosin Nagant stun rifle to take them out. This was done by way of the same sniper view the rifle had in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

Snake then made his way down the building onto the ground and took out another PMC soldier, this time using a stun knife that can discharge electricity. Kojima showed how the knife can be used to just zap the enemy and knock them unconscious, though it can also be used for fatal slashing as well.

Seeing that yet another PMC soldier was nearby, Kojima showed off Snake's new prop--the oil barrel. The oil barrel in MGS4 has as much a camouflage effect as the series' traditional cardboard box, except it's a bit more resistant to bullet shots because it's made of metal. Unfortunately, it didn't seem as stealthy, because we heard Snake's knees banging into it as he walked. Kojima showed that the barrel could also be an effective weapon when Snake rolls on the ground inside it, attacking any soldiers in his path. Naturally, though, Snake was dizzy once he got back up, and we saw him throwing up.

Kojima went on to confirm that gamers would be able to play through the whole game in a first-person view, and showed how the Sixaxis' motion-sensing can be used to duck and peek around corners.

Snake then went into a nearby building and talked to his friend Otacon via his Metal Gear MKII robot, re-creating part of the first MGS4 trailer. Eventually a battle between PMC and guerrilla forces erupted outdoors. The PMC soldiers were obviously getting the upper hand, as they had more firepower and cutting-edge technology on their side, including flying biomechanical creatures that would drop bombs.

To help fight off one of the PMC soldiers, Kojima showed Snake's new best friend, the Metal Gear MKII. By selecting MKII from the item inventory, the player can take control of it and move around in either first- or third-person view. (Snake is seen crouching on the ground with his hands on the MKII's remote controller--which is an exact replica of a Sixaxis gamepad.) And while the stealthy MKII may seem small and harmless, it can knock out enemies with a powerful knock of electricity.

Turning back to Snake, Kojima showed that the protagonist can throw grenades backward like in the previous trailer. The grenade's trajectory is shown onscreen, Gears of War-style, as Snake is preparing to throw his grenade.

As the demo neared its end, Kojima showed off some more weapons that can be used in Guns of the Patriots. He used an RPG-7 to explode a tank, an AK-102 rifle to shoot some enemies on the roof, and a P90 to take out remaining soldiers on the ground.

Kojima pointed out that while he had been attacking PMC soldiers and helping out the civilian guerrillas in the demo, it's really up to the player to decide which side to be on--or to not side with either of them.

Overall, Guns of the Patriots defaults to the same kind of third-person view as previous MGS installments. The basic interface has been kept intact as well, with the item itinerary on the bottom left side of the screen and the weapons itinerary on the bottom right.

One addition to the heads-up display that wasn't in previous installments was a semitransparent, illustrated icon on the bottom of the screen that appeared whenever Snake was near an object that he could interact with, such as a wall, an unconscious enemy, or a ledge. Another such object was a dumpster in an alley, which Snake hid in until enemy soldiers cleared out. But since it's full of garbage, Kojima noted that Snake would start to smell if he stayed inside the dumpster too long, making himself more obvious to enemies. As he came out of hiding, Snake was surrounded by a swarm of buzzing flies, though shaking the Sixaxis controller seemed to swat them away.
