In hopes of getting a good response I decided to start another monitor thread asking what things I should look for in a monitor.

I would like something bigger than my previous 15" monitor.

17 tube (non LCD ) monitors are very cheap at Best Buy. I think they had a special on some brand for $50 with rebate last time I went. I got a 19 incher for $150.

    - flat screen or flat panel

flat screen is a regular monitor with a flat screen, no curved face...
flat panel is just that, a nice, thin, space saving, flat panel monitor

if you can't afford a flat panel, please, make sure you get at least a flat screen!

here's some info i found on dot pitch.
    - Get a monitor that will at least support 1024 x 768 resolution

    Pimp-

I bought my brother-in-law a used (about 1998 model) 19" Hitachi monitor on eBay for $100 including shipping. Also, I have been looking at 17" Flat Panel LCD monitors on eBay as well, but the cheapest ones go for about $300.

Dude we need to meet up for a beer sometime...... We can put it on my company card... :p

A 19' (or at least a 17') flat screen (not flat panel), that is a trinitron to reduce glare. You can buy a generic brand (Viewsonic or KDS) for $100 for a 17' or $150 for a 19'.

I have a 17' KDS trinitron that I got 5 years ago and it still looks great.

Well make sure it has a graphics card..video card...

    And make sure it works.

    They are pretty cheap nowadays...

    A variety to select from.

Check out some websites that review monitors...and choose th right one for you! ;)

A 17" (or greater) flat screen monitor from a good brand like ViewSonic is the way to go, IMO. I bought one with a silver exterior finish late last year at the Fry's here in Austin, and it has worked great with very good picture quality.

I love the Trinitrons. I know you had one before, but personally, it's all I buy.

You can get LCDs for a good price at SAM'S. Actually, SAM'S has the best retail prices around for monitors. They had a 19" that was marketed under "Orion" which was also repackaged as Samsung and it was FANTASTIC! I haven't seen a nicer 19" monitor outside of the Trinitrons.
