Wondering if anyone on the board is in this line of work/career path. I know it is a pretty wide field, from video to graphics, but I'd like to get some idea of how to start out.

I've actually been somewhat interested here recently in the media/production 'specialist' positions like those you'd find in school districts or colleges. I'm also very interested in video production.

I figured we have just about every field covered here on the board, :) , so if anyone has any information it would be much appreciated.

    Good luck.

If you don't have connections or you don't have experience or the most kick-ass demo reel ever, you're gonna have a hard time finding anything.

I got somewhat lucky. I had a pretty good relationship with my college professor who hooked me up w/ a utitlity gig; I happened to be in the right place at the right time and got the contact info for a guy that got me some more work. It started to amount to something, but after taking a long hard look at things, I decided that freelancing was just not steady enough for me. And after sending resumes to pretty much everywhere...tv stations, production houses, ad agencies, media centers in offices...and striking out I had just about had enough.

Thankfully I found some growth in my then current job which led me to what I do now....teaching.

I'd say the best advice I could give is to go to any of these places and offer to intern, for free...sweep the floors, log b-roll, clean the freakin toilets if you have to...just find a way to get in, work your ass off and move up from there.

There is some websites with tutorials and stuff on how to start out. If you want them i can't send it to you on clutchfans or it would be considered advertising ( would it? ) . I can catch you on AIM or email though.

I don't think there's any problem at all with posting that type of stuff. It's only considered avertising if it's in your signature.
