I posted earlier today about going to Mardi Gras in Galveston. My wife and I are so excited about this, that we have decided to go to New Orleans on the 21st through 23rd of February for Mardi Gras there. We've never been. We've been a few weeks prior when parades were just starting up, and it was a blast. I was there when I was much younger, but I don't really remember it....if you know what I mean. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions? I'm pretty sure we're going to stay at Iberville Suites which is on the edge of the quarter and just one street over from canal (where we'd like to catch some parades). We've stayed there before, and we can get a fairly decent suite for not a whole lot of cash. Honestly, we're old (thirtysomething), so we're probably going to really enjoy the parades more than muscling our way through the quarter at night (though I'll make sure we do some of that). Anyway...is there anything anyone would like to suggest? Should we stay some place specific? Should we avoid anything? Is there anything that is a must see during Mardi Gras (or at least that weekend). We're pretty comfortable in NOLA, but we don't want to miss anything.
No matter how carried away you or your wife get collecting beads, don't forget the cameras...unless you are in to that kind of thing and don't mind your wife's picture advertised during the Howard Stern show!
the shows that they do in the street are awesome. if they gather a crowd, then stay and watch. also, try to go to a few local parties if you can. also, if you need a beer or bathroom, its easiest to get off bourbon a couple streets and find another bar. fill up, empty out and head back to the action. have fun and be nice to cab drivers, it might save you money.
