He's just wiping through the Mets (against Pedro Martinez) right now .... would need 7 more K's in 3 innings to break the record.

Not to be off-topic, but the Mets are in danger of starting out 0-6.

I'm sure the Astros fans on here are not shedding any tears for the Mets. :)

Hope Pedro and Beltran enjoy spending this coming fall at home - something they didn't do last year. Chumps.

Unfortunately he just hit a 2-run jack .... Smoltz is now likely done (15Ks through 7-1/3). 2-1 Mets now.

They only have 1 run after such a good performance by the pitcher!

DAMN Beltran. I hope they lose...again.

    Good.

He's making up for that crappy season-opening performance.

My fantasy team needs a strong Smoltz.

I always liked Smoltz, glad hes doing well, think hes better in the as a starter rather than a closer

He's potentially in line for the loss now unfortunately. Cliff Floyd was the first batter off the reliever for Smoltz and he hit a tater as well. Few batters later David Wright went deep. It's 5-1 Mets.

I'm not going to overdramaticize (?) Beltran's hit, but it could be one of those hits that turns a team around, even though it is ridiculously early. That team was swinging at air like crazy and about to be 0-6. I wish nothing but losses on the Mets, but I still think the Astros not getting him is going to really bite them, even if it wasn't their fault. The 'Stros offense is really kind of weak now without him (not to mention Jeff Kent is tatooing the ball in LA).

But we only have 2 guys with speed and only one of them can hit. Guys with speed are at the mercy of the people hitting behind them. Biggio has the most RBI's on the team right now with 3. Clemens is tied for 3rd on the team. We have the 3rd least RBI's in the league right now. No matter how great our pitchers do, if we don't start supporting them, we're screwed.

Everette, Taveras, Burke, and even Biggio. So far they have done as much as needed.

    HR BAGWELL!! BOOOM!

1 min later, HR ENSBERG!!! Back to back baby!

I feel good about this team. Lane, Baggy, Ensberg, Biggio, Maybe even Scott are capable of 20HR+ seasons.

I hope Beltran does well, he played hard for us and he went to a team he wanted to play for.

Stros offense will only improve as the younget guys get more comfrotable and Lance Berkman gets healthy.

Good pitching beats good hitting every day of the week, and the Stros have excellent pitching.

beltran is a great player and he's going to perform well no matter what we want, but i hope the mets are terrible and he doesn't make the playofsf for the remainder of his contract. why on earth did he want to sign there?

smoltz can kiss my ass too. he seems like a cool guy from the interviews but he's a brave and i sure did enjoy his opening day performance.
