    What is IT?

    Ginger/IT is back in the news.... I found this story on Yahoo.

    More Ginger details may be coming

    excerpt:

    "Good Morning America" anchor Diane Sawyer said earlier this week that the show will reveal what Ginger--also known as IT--is next week on the show...
    ...Dean Kamen, the inventor of the device, has filed for at least four patents in the past three months with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office...

    I am slightly ashamed to admit it, but I have been swept up in the hype surrounding this "IT" that Kamen has invented. I understand that it could all be elaborate publicity stunts, but I truly want to believe that someone has come up with a better, cheaper, less polluting means of transportation that is affordable by most families.

    What time does Good Morning America come on? I want to tape whatever happens on that show.

    Agreed on all points.

    My question is this: Exactly where will people drive these things?

    From what I've heard, they won't have much in the top speed dept (rightly so), so they can't be expected to hop on the freeway. I'm scared to drive my car on newly (and overly) narrow streets because of bike lanes, and I sure as hell would never ride a bike on those bike lanes for the simple reason that I don't want to die. Our streets are just not wide enough overall for bike lanes, imo.

    Four patents in three months is a "flurry"??? That's like saying 4 goals in 3 soccer games is a "flurry"!

    I think its more geared for handicap people, like an ultimate wheelchair, easier accesible blah, blah...

    Oh yeah the inventor, isn't he just rich as ****, richer that Bill Gates or something?!

    I haven't heard anything about it being geared for the handicapped. All I've heard is that its an alternate form of transportation. The people he showed IT to (Steve Jobs, among others) said that cities will be planned around its use.

    Yeah, the inventor is rich as ****. Not richer than Gates, I don't believe. He owns his own island and all other kinds of crap.

    Oh yeah, and he already has 2 or 3 other inventions/rides for the handicapped, so I dunno why this one would require that much more fanfare. I'm guessing this is for anyone to use. He's already stated that this isn't as great as everyone's hyping it up to be, but it would be significant.
