For the experts I have a question. Will the Revenue accruing to teams pooled for the post-season as BRI ( Basketball Related Income) or do the respective teams keep/share ( just the playoff teams) the money ( TV Rights etc etc)

The reason I ask is the reluctance of owners to go over the luxury cap. Sure financially it seems to make no sense to pay 'dollar-for-dollar' tax. But if you dont use the word tax- let us just call it that we have dead weight contract- I was just wondering why they are reluctant.

If the Play off revenue accrues to the team- and say the team has the chance to go to Conference finals ( assuming a total of 12-20 games in all extra)- if we a team goes over the luxury tax threshold- all they are doing is giving up on the extra income to an extent.

But if the team goes to the final, heck that will more than make up for the "tax hit"- there were unscientific reports that linked Our earlier title victories to increased economic activity in Houston! OF course I am assuming that the play off teams make extra money commensurate with how many games they play in the post-season.

Broadcast rights and playoff gate receipts are part of the shared BRI. The Luxury Tax is not part of BRI and not shared.

Gater, so you are suggesting that a Team that goes to the conference final versus a team that does not even make playoffs, will share in the Playoff revenue ( both ticket and Broadcast rights) revenues? That would be communism!
