I saw that. More bad info from Iraq the Administration was trying to hide before the election.

Not only that but official things like this (and this is only one of many items confirming this) seriously undercut the "media doesn't report the good news, I talked to some guy in the hardware store and he said things were going just fine!" stories that popped up every few months, though they have dwindled as sustaining that illusion becomes more difficult.

I know a few people will be diverted by this. But what we really ought to be paying attention to was Kerry's botched joke(or the GOP's inability to get it). Isn't that what is really important?

You spotted me, FranchiseBlade, so I will give it up.

Yes, I started this thread as a distraction to boost Jim Webb and distract from the 2004 election, which is the real issue. I was planted here by the DNC to sway Rocket fans in swing states, so I started this ruse. Busted.

If the Democrats win, won't we all have to become gay muslims who practice abortion?

It is remarkable that the military would even use a stark term like "chaos" as a marker on a graph in an official document.

    No sugar coating there.

interesting slide, but as a veteran of many ppt presos i can say that w/o the presentation that goes w/ it, there's little context. the bar graph is interesting, and yeah, as the president himself has said, there's been a significant uptick in violence, not coincidentally, just in time for the mid-terms.

why do the dems remind me of the knights of the holy grail shouting "run away! run away!"?

If you elect the Democrats they'll tax you into the poor house, and on the way, you'll meet a terrorist on every corner, and when you try to run away, you'll stumble over an illegal immigrant.

yes, it certainly is devoid of context - do you honestly want me to post the rest of the informational back-up with regard to the ongoingt hellacious situation in Iraq? I dont' think CF.net has enough bandwidth for that post.

Anyway, what evidence do you have that a shiite who beheads a sunni or a sunni who drives a carbomb in a mosque last month is timing his actions to "the mid-terms"? I tend to think that's the furthest thing from their minds; and I highly doubt that in November, massacres are going to dip noticeably until the next election. Does anybody really believe this?

Or is that yet another naive take on the Iraqi political situation being pressed by the right, you know the same people who brought you the "welcome us with flowers/mission accomplished" talk, and those who have been wrong about pretty much every single thing in Iraq so far?

As opposed to Republicans who remind me of the Black Knight bleeding to death going "its just a scratch."

Kroll pulls security team out of Iraq

Kroll withdrew its bodyguard teams from Iraq and Afghanistan after four workers died in Iraq.

(AP) — Manhattan security company Kroll has withdrawn its bodyguard teams from Iraq and Afghanistan after it lost four workers in Iraq, its parent company said Wednesday.

Michael Cherkasky, president and chief executive of Kroll owner Marsh & McLennan Cos., told The Associated Press that the business in the two countries wasn't worth risking the lives of their employees.

Bechtel pulling out after 3 rough years of rebuilding work

David R. Baker, Chronicle Staff Writer

    Wednesday, November 1, 2006

Bechtel Corp. went to Iraq three years ago to help rebuild a nation torn by war. Since then, 52 of its people have been killed and much of its work sabotaged as Iraq dissolved into insurgency and sectarian violence.

    Now Bechtel is leaving.

I wonder if KBR will pull out? I know someone over there who works for them, and I sure wish he'd get his ass back home.

My nephew who is in the Marines has come back from Iraq safely thank goodness. He was homesick the whole time, but he was doing alright until the last month. Then that last month over there was really bad, and it really shook him up.

It is a real shame what is happening.
