My daughter was supposed to be born March 21, but apparently she is coming SOON. Like in the next week or so.

Does anyone know anything about camcorders?
Are DVDs or HDs the way to go?

I'm thinking a budget of no more than 1200 bucks.

I hear that the DVD camcorders aren't that great. Supposedly, the disks don't hold enough data.

    check out cnet

I got a panasonic about 4 years ago and have been very happy with it.

Oh, and when you buy, remember that you're going to need to spend another $100 on accessories (tapes, batteries, carrying case, memory cards, etc.).

EDIT: this one looks sweet, and is well within your budget:

EDIT EDIT: you can get that camcorder for as low as $800.
(note: I do not necessarily recommend that site. I've never ordered from them. To find out if a seller is reputable, check out resellerratings.com. That reseller gets mediocre reviews. Also, watch out for refurbs).
