I have been very impressed with recent moves made by Obama to reach across the aisle such as having a meeting with the Republican House Caucus, keeping Gates, not just appointing Gregg but allowing for a deal that lets that seat stay Republican and it sounds like dropping Daschle was a concession to Republicans. What I find particularly amazing about this is that both Clinton and GW Bush's first major pieces of legislation they basically stuck to ramming them through Congress relying on their party majorities. Obama is coming in with a bigger majority than Clinton or GW Bush had and he could easily ram through the stimulus bill without courting Republicans. Even if the Republicans filibuster its doubtful that moderate Republicans from blue states or Joe Lieberman would support a filibuster.

I don't know how all this will play out and its still likely he might have to rely on the Democratic majority in the Senate to pass this bill but I am impressed by how much is doing to court Republicans.
