Is there any way to be sure you're not gonna get ripped off when buying something off of Ebay? I think that alone keeps me from purchasing from there.
I've got over 150 feedbacks/transactions. Never been ripped of once...oh until my last purchase about 2 months ago. The person sent my book "Media rate" and it still hasn't arrived 2 months later. They even left positive feedback for me so I doubt they ripped me off...it was only 6 bucks. Look at how many feedbacks the person has.
my roommate was telling me they sell gift certificates on there and when i saw them i was like this is too good to be true. and when things are too good to be true they usually aren't true. anyhow...my point being how safe are you from being ripped off? is it all on the person you are buying from to send you the stuff you buy? is there any legal recourse if they do rip you off? and i guess from what mr. oily said it is relatively safe to buy on there...1 out of 150 isnt that bad i guess. also mr. oily do you ever try to make money off the stuff you buy on ebay? cuz it seems like the stuff on there is really really cheap sometimes...seems like someone could buy stuff on there and sell it at a marked up price somewhere else. are the people who sell stuff on there obligated to sell to the last bidder when time expires if the price that they want for their goods is not high enough or can they decide not to sell? ok well i think thats about all i was curious about...
I've never bought or sold anything on ebay, so I could be wrong, but I believe a seller can set a minimum amount they're willing to take for something.
traj..... I believe that is correct.... I havent bought much ..... I bought a few basketball cards.. what annoyed me is i'd pay 2 bucks for the card... then they'd charge me 2 bucks shipping and handling and i'd get it in just an envelope with a regular 34 cent stamp on it. or whatever
I have had great experiences buying and selling on ebay. I would recommend paying with paypal so you have the buyer protection of your credit card. Also be critical of the sellers feedback and read their negative feedback. The best way of avoiding problems is by being an informed buyer and using common sense. Ask quesitons and make sure that the item has picture and well described. Also keep in mind that while you are taking a risk the savings usually justifies it.
I sell on Ebay and have 117 positive feedbacks. Feel safe. Its always secure and just stay on top of your bids. You can get some CHEAP stuff and Ebay trys to rid all of the deadbeats. You cant sell unless you have positive feedback or no one would buy from you Email me if you have any Ebay questions.
Ebay used to be a really cool way to get good deals from individuals on everything from sports memorablia to Rockets tickets. Now there's too many commercial businesses horning in on it and using it as their retail outlet on the web...which I guess is smart for them, but it really cuts down on the quality deals you can find.
Just the amount of wading through lines upon lines of Junk just to find some decent stuff there has curved my EBAYing habits greatly. Too me, the deals dont seem great at all anymore.
PhiSlammaJamma is crazy when it comes to sportscards. I dont remembere his exact name on ebay, but some of his purchases were quite......umm....amazing. Also, a seller can shut down the auction at any time if he or she feels like the are not getting a fair price. I've done it once or twice and have seen others do it as well.
I think these might help if you feel the seller is "selling you out".... http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/auth-overview.html Authentication Use third-party expertise to provide a second opinion about the authenticity of an item and its condition. http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/idverify-login.html ID Verify Have your personal information verified to establish proof of identity—let others know who their trading partner is. https://www.squaretrade.com/eb/ebay_020801.html?marketplace_name=ebay&campaign=EBY_OD_8 Dispute Resolution An independent, neutral third party will help you resolve disputes that may arise. https://www.squaretrade.com/sap/jsp/lnm/overview_seal.jsp?mp=ebay&campaign=eby_ps_SL3 SquareTrade Seal Let buyers know you are committed to their satisfaction. Free one-month trial – see if you qualify. And Rockets03, how do you end the auction if you feel you aren't getting a good price on the product you are selling?
Go to the item page you want to end early and scroll all the way down. There will be something called "Top questions asked" or something like that. One of them will be about ending your listing early. Just click on that and follow the simple directions. It takes about two minutes. I just got someone to end an auction for me early just a couple of days ago. Got a Yao Ming autograph life size poster! woo hoo!
identity theft is common on ebay. A person will steal someone's account with a very large amount of positive feedback and rip someone off using that account.
Mrs JB and I have bought and sold literally hundreds of items on Ebay - things as expensive as computers, guitars and other music geat to as cheap as stuff for under $2 - and we have never been ripped off. We've had a couple of people just not pay us but we didn't send anything, so we just re-listed. No biggie. If you check the feedback and follow the procedures Ebay sets up for watching your transactions, you should be fine.
