I am going to see DMB Saturday for the first time, anything I should be expecting, should be really awesome. I know theres a few people on the bbs who like DMB, any of you have stories about when you saw them in concert?
Every time I have gone, it has smelled like pot, which I didn't like, but other than that, it is a great experience and you should have a good time. Heck, maybe you will be one of the guys toking up, I don't knowDon't expect their songs to sound too close to the way they are on the album, and watch for songs kind of bleeding together.
Agreed. It's an excellent show, but it can get rather boring towards the middle during one of the slow 8-9 minute songs. Only the DMB elitists and the people who are stoned seem to really get into those. So there's those people, and there's the teenagers who go there just to buy the $30 t-shirt and listen to the latest one they heard on the radio.
My advice would be to pick up one of their live releases. Most of those will give you a good idea on what to expect. How much are you into DMB? Do you know just their hits or can you identify other songs that are popular among their fans if not commercially so? You'll have about 5-6 songs with nice jams at the end. If this past tour is any indication, they'll be chock full of energy and emotion. The back-to-back shows I caught here in The Woodlands were the best two DMB experiences I've had (thanks, Chance! ). Also, I'd expect some political commentary at this show. The only thing he said at The Woodlands show was that he wanted everyone to vote. He didn't care who you voted for as long as you voted. Of course, with this being a politically motivated tour, you'll probably get more commentary between songs, but who knows? All I know is that no one can get upset about it because it's obvious going in what kind of atmosphere is expected by the bands involved. Of course, that won't stop conservatives from whining about it. Be sure to get there early for Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals and Jurassic 5. I'm jealous.
So this is part of the vote for change tour? That means it's DMB, Ben Harper, and Jurassic 5. . . damn, that is a bad ass show. Did they come to Houston?
Flyer -- i'm jealous. this was my first non-DMB concert summer in 5 years. you'll have a blast. they're incredible live.
james taylor will be there too, correct? and to whoever smelled mar1juana at a rock concert... are you serious?
Thanks for the feedback guys, looking foward to it. Yea its a show in Dayton, Ohio. I wouldnt say I am a hardcore fan of DMB, but I do recognize other songs from DMB other than the hits on the radio. I actually like the songs that arent played on the radio more generally than those that are.
I should be getting some pretty good seats as well, I have "connections" at the venue its at, so I am really excited and on top of it, its my first time seeing DMB. I will post what I thought sometime next week after the concert
I have been to about 8-10 concerts, and I had people within 6' of me smoking MJ at 2 of them, both DMB. So yes, I am serious.
You should really enjoy it. I'll try to put both Houston shows up for download, so you can get a sample. I'm also working on a little "Best of Texas 04" compilation that I'll put up when it's done.
I read it as him mocking me and implying that all concerts are going to reek of mar1juana, which I simply refuted. On the other hand, 50% of DMB concerts had lesbians making out right in front of me, which I can't say about any other band.
