This is something I've been wondering for a while. You know how fans sitting behind the basket always hold up stuff(what's that called anywy) and boo the opposing players? Wouldn't it be much more effective if they did it in some unsynchronized way? Or start/stop/start/stop? That should throw off the opposing player a lot more. Or is there some rule against this sort of stuff.
I doubt there is any kind of rule...it's just probably a very difficult thing to get fans to go along with since it requires a good deal more synchronization than just beating inflated sticks together. What are you suggesting? Like a mini-wave or something?
I was thinking they can start to wave for about a second, then stop, then start again. Basically anything other than a continous wave and holler. The way it is right now doesn't seem to be very disruptive, since the player can just block it out as background noise. Just a thought.
I always thought the dancers for the home team should flash the shooter, that would be sure to distract them, and they're already under the basket.
I remember a few years back, maybe in 1995 or 96, the Indiana Pacers had these spinning pinwheel things. But the NBA wouldn't allow them to use it again. They used it on Shaq.
