I just got a HP computer that came with a DVD Burner. Does anyone know how to rip DVD's onto the hard drive? Or to a DVD+R? If anyone knows anything, please let me know. Thanks.

I got a Sony about 8 months ago that had a DVD burner. I have put a good amount of time into it, but I have yet to burn anything onto a disc.

Why? Commercial DVDs are legal and cheap enough that there is very little reason to bother with ripping them.

    Follow DOD's links.

They are extremely helpful and that's how I have burnt/copied DVD's with a hp200i dvd burner.

The older "single-layer" dvds are easy, just use "DVD-Decryptor". I copied "Red Dawn" and burnt it and it plays fine in my Toshiba DVD player. It took a few hours and consumed the PC's CPU.

I haven't taken the time to figure out how to do the newer "dual-layer" dvds, much harder. Unfortunately, they are pretty much the standard right now. I will figure it out sometime, it is a lot of work and those websites DOD listed tell you how.

    Agreed,

You should not rip any commercial DVD.

An academy version of "The Two Towers" would be an entirely different story.

If I were you I'd take the whole machine and chunk it!

The entire music (and movie) industries is a hair away from Bankrupcy, and they will TRY to put as many 'pirates' in jail as they can on their way down! (purely out of principle)

Sometimes I think music (and movie) industry lawyers were once Navy Seals! (IE: 2nd place sux)

If you are scared of people coming and throwing you in jail for copying DVDs as a last ditch effort, you are mistaken. That would be like the music industry busting into your house for burning a cd.

I hope you are being sarcastic.

Am I? I used to be Restaurant Manager, and have been PERSONALLY threatened by ASCAP lawyers for playing the RADIO in my restaurant!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can only imagine what they (the lawyers) have in mind for the likes of you.

Actually it is one of my favorites, used to watch it all the time as a kid. If I was a fanatic of any of those actors it would probably be Leah Thompson, she used to be so yummy. :)

I own it on DVD and just wanted to test how to copy DVD's, plus I did it at work so it was a pretty cool way to waste some time.
