You know, I do know the history of the National Socialist Party. I do know that Republicans and Democrats are described with derisive terms, as well. I do know that confederacy in America has symbols people love to hate.

This does not mean I think that the National Socialist movement was bad, nor does it mean that I think the word "Nazi" is bad. Likewise, I do not think Communist is a bad term, nor Socialist.

I think that quote you posted is a very naive definition of "Nazism" with which I do not agree.

Really, tell me. I love discussions about politically correct terms. You know I do. You know that I do not use them with ignorance. What I don't know is why a German despises the use of a political term. That all it is to me. I do not attach anything else to it.

The quote I posted was just an excerpt from the history channel website. I wanted to keep it as simple as possible for you, after I realized that what you posted before was just so insensitive and displayed such an utter lack of understanding of how terrible it is to compare a person to a Nazi. It was actually not really a definition that one can agree or not agree on. It was just plain facts from history - neither naive or not naive. The Nazis killed millions and millions of people and one cannot compare them at all to Republicans or Democrats in any way. I don't know what the "%"! you mean when you say that you don't think the National Socialist Movement was bad. It was, in my opinion, and most would probably agree with me, the most terrible thing that has ever happened in history. As a German, I am especially aware of our terrible history during these 12 years and it just pains me when someone with no idea at all comes up with this crap talking about how that was not bad. I do not despise the use of the term, I do despise the improper use of the term. The term can be used to describe the people who did these terrible things. The term "Neo-Nazi" can be used for people who believe in the same awful things the Nazis did. But you should NEVER call someone a Nazi, not even jokingly, because what the Nazis did is so terrible, so far beyond belief that one should be extremely sensitive when using the word.

I made the experience that sometimes people in the US, who, in their individual case, apparently had a blatant lack of knowledge of history as well, would tell me "Oh, you are from Germany" and would then express that they thought the Nazis were not all that bad. I was once in a cab in San Diego with an African-American cab driver who, when he realized I was from Germany, started telling me that he hated all jews and that Hitler was a great man. It almost made me puke. I tried to explain to him that he himself would have been killed as one of the first people during the Nazi regime, but that would not stop him from repeating what a great guy Hitler was, so I left the taxi in the middle of nowhere.

Sorry, but being from Germany, I guess I am more sensitive to people acting in a misinformed way and thereby potentially causing people to think the term "Nazi" is something funny. I don't think you would say "I don't think the Klu-Klux-Klan is bad", at least it would shock me if that was your opinion. Well, the Nazis were of the same kind, just even much more organized, cruel and aggressive.

One more thing, yes, you did use the term with ignorance if you called someone a Nazi who does not believe in that ideology.

I see where you're coming from, but I think most people use Nazi as a synonym for fascist... which makes sense. All they're saying is that a person is a control freak. I don't think that emphasizing part of a group's nature in using a term as a label demeans the events that transpired.
