Thought I'd start a new thread on this, rather than post in the missing girl thread. About three weeks ago, my father called me and told me that my uncle had passed away. Now, my uncle got into a bad car accident back in the 70's that shattered his hip, and it had been deteriorating ever since. He typically walked with a cane or in a wheelchair. He owned some property in Willis, and was living on a half acre of land. Well, apparently, his girlfriend and his buddy were at his place all night. Their story is that when they realized he didn't come in at all during the night, they went out looking for him. Apparently he had been burning some leaves on the property. Either way, he was found burned to death in the leaves he had been burning. Their theory is that he got up from his wheelchair to mix up the leaves a bit, had a heart attack or possibly a stroke, and fell into the leaves. Regardless, both the wheelchair and he were completely burned beyond recognition. Now I'm not the accusatory sort, but to me it seems highly unlikely that their theory occured. What's more, I'm fairly sure a burning body would let off a stench that would be easily noticable on his property, even if they were 50 yards away. It's still under investigation, but the whole thing sounds fishy to me.
My first reaction would be some sort of fling between the girlfriend and his friend. It seems all-too-convenient of a death not to suspect them. Additionally, were there any insurance policies involved...more specifically, did the girlfriend or friend have any vested interest in the outcome of an insurance check? Based on your story, it does seem fishy. Any good investigators should be able to needle away at the two and determine if they are truly hiding anything. Keep us updated...I'm interested now.
Unless there was insurance money involved I'd think it reasonable to presume it an accident. Since your uncle was not married, I'd rule out any love triangle theories.
Sorry to hear about your loss. As for the theory: Girlfriend and his buddy at his place all night, but not with him. Weird. How "busy" were they that neither of them 'realized' he hadn't come back in? While I hate to speculate on things that SEEM fishy like this (not hard to envision foul play with this), I mean accidents DO happen, there is nothing about this that seems right. I would agree with asking if they stood to gain financially from his demise. Also, I wonder if maybe someone else knew about the nature of the relationship between the "buddy" and the girlfriend. What kind of people they are in general? Is this hard to believe they would do such a thing? Did you uncle have a known heart condition? Pre-existing condition towards a stroke? Man, sorry. Terrible position to be in, amidst loss and dealing with that. Condolences.
Not true at all. You don't have to be married to be in one of those. Situation does sound fishy; hopefully the investigators will do their due dilligence and get to the bottom of this.
