Incredibly, there is still nothing from the NBA about the Rockets' China trip. David Stern basically confirmed it during the All-Star weekend and again at the Finals (though the second time I had to ask him if he'll let us know before we have to start boarding the flight.) Daryl Morey mentioned the preseason games in China during the Brad Miller press conference when he said Yao was ahead of schedule to be ready for the start of camp. Yet, the NBA has still not made the schedule official. The delay, I'm told again, is not because of any holdups in making the deals necessary, but in coming to agreement about the announcement itself. The Rockets will open camp early, Sept. 25, because of the extra training camp days allowed to teams playing overseas. After opening their preseason schedule in McAllen, they'll head to China. Still it would be sort of nice if the NBA would just make the announcement.

Luis Scola and the Argentina National Team began training camp on Monday, with Scola headed for the World Championships once again as a matter of course. He looked horrified at the idea that he might take a summer off. He never considered letting his free agent status change his plans. His plans, however, did change his status as a free agent. Scola gave himself a deadline of the start of camp to reach a deal. Scola was willing to accept an offer to return to Spain. He expected to soon receive an offer to play in Newark, the Barcelona of Northern New Jersey. The Rockets made their offer knowing Scola's deadline was coming. That seems fitting. The Rockets got Scola because of a deadline. He had roughly 48 hours remaining in July 2007 before he would forfeit the right to opt out of his contract with Tau. The Spurs had a deal with the Cavaliers fall through and with the clock ticking and the deadline approaching, they accepted the trade offer from the Rockets. It took a deadline in Spain for the Rockets to get him. Another deadline helped the Rockets keep him.

If Scola went to the Cavs, I think they would have won the championship in my opinion.

And James would have never left Cleveland. Wow, that city is cursed.
