Can anyone recommend a good scanner?

    I'm looking for a good scanner with high quality and I think I'd like the ability to do slides as well. $170 is about the most I'd spend, though I hope for less.

    Any ideas?

    I got a $39 Microtek from Fry's. It's a model they don't make anymore, but it kicks butt... doesn't do slides but for photos, etc...it does just fine... good luck

    wHAT KINDA SLIDES?

    I got a high-end Microtek (around $199) thinking it would scan my artwork better than the cheapy I had first bought (around $80)...and it doesn't! It does, however scan images, landscapes and things like that kinda "so-so", just not detailed JAckson Pollock-esque paintings in slides very well.

    Actually you could scan slides WITHOUT the attatchment...

    You can find a really good one for about 100 bucks or less nowadays. There are some 30-50 dollar range scanners online that pretty good.

    As far as creating slides are concerned, the scanner itself doesn't have that capability...All it does it to convert your pictures into your computer digitally...It's the software which comes with it that creates the slides for you...You can create slideshows using various softwares for different uses...ie Macromedia Dreamweaver for webpages, MS Powerpoint for general presentations, etc...
