Kupchak has done an excellent job of maintaining a strong, competitive team to surround Kobe. Although, I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that he's representing the Purple and Gold, so players WANT to play there. That's half the battle as a GM right there.....I doubt Kupchak would have the same amount of success in Milwaukee, Indiana, Charlotte, etc.
IMO, leaving the Lakers for the dysfunction in Portland would be crazy for Kupchak. It would also be crazy for the Blazers to hire Kerr as coach/GM.
Dysfunction? Really? Portland seems like a GM's dream destination right now. Picks, star, caproom, role player, flexibility.
Have you heard the reports of how Buss Jr. is running things on the left coast? Won't be long before cupcake gets the axe.... Having said that, I don't know if cupcake will want to leave LA after 25 years at the same gig. I don't think Kupchak is really all that good anyway.
