It's been one day since my accident, and I wanted to see if anyone could help me out with a question I have. Since I bought my vehicle in May, I have a few years to to pay on it. But since I will never be able to drive it again, my insurance is going to try to settle with me. How much does full coverage insurance usually pay out percentage wise for the value of the vehicle? And also, when I talked to a constable, he said that my insurance rate is going to go up whether or not I was at fault for the accident (which I wasn't). To me, that doesn't make sense at all. Why would my rate go up even though I was not the cause of the wreck? Insurance is a total rip off especially for all us males that fall in the 18-24 age category.
Was the car new when you bought it? I`m not an expert but I think you do not get the full value {money owed} only the "blue book value" and since it depreciates as soon as you drive it off the lot the value is not the same as what you owe.........like I said I`m no expert. Did you find out if the baby was OK? Did you end up seeing a doctor to make sure you were alright?
Think ROCKSS is right on that one. I had a 91 van totalled a few years ago (not my fault either-- my left rear tire blew at 65mph and I rolled off the side of the road... oof.). I got full blue book value, but my insurance went way up too. To offset the increase, I went with a "vintage" VW bus, something I'd been thinking about anyway-- all the insurance would cover was liability so I ended up paying much less... I know it is not the solution for everyone, but it worked for me... Hope you're okay (get checked out with a doctor just in case)
Yes, it was new. So I think that it couldn't have depreciated in value much. Haven't been able to contact the people. But I am planning to soon. Just have to brush up on my spanish a little or get someone who is bilingual to write the questions down for me in spanish. As far as the insurance, I hope they can give me at least 80% of the value. After all, it was brand new. Thanks guys. Haven't been able to see the doc b/c of school and I was just rehired by continental and they want me to go back to work today. But I'll definitely make time if the soreness in my neck won't go away. It's not too bad right now. Hope I am not suffering from whiplash. Now that would suck.
