Why would you tip them if they are carrying your stuff? They might fall over and break something...Go find a field of cows and tip them... Geesh...
Whenever we've had movers, we tip them. Plus if they are working through meals we usually by them lunch or dinner too. Usually a bunch of Taco Bell or a bucket of chicken and some iced down Cokes.
Me too, I would usually divide 20% of the cost of the move among the movers, give or take. So if the move cost you 500, divide 100 between the movers.
I don't think you really have to tip them, but you HAVE to make sure that you offer them a drink like water or a Coke (also, probably not a good idea to discuss their stance on the abortion issue).
I just moved and yes, I did tip them. Maybe I should have done it BEFORE they started working, so that they would not have made my sofa all dirty and stuff .
thanks Max. I had to throw that out there since the thread was started by another big Seinfeld fan in TheFreak.
I usually tip movers, except for the mover that moved my stuff from LA to Houston. He was a week late, and didn't show up until my lawyer FAXed the moving company a threatening letter. When he delivered my stuff, a piece of furniture and a component of my stereo system were broken. When I asked about this, he shrugged and told me to "cal the office". So, instead of tipping him, I stole his pocketknife. Still got it, too. Yeah I know. It ain't much, but sometimes you have to work for your satisfaction.
Looks like they need to be tipped...could more of you guys tell me how much you tip though? That 20% sounds outrageous Mulder. I've never had more than two movers show up. I don't see myself giving them a hundred bucks as a tip. I probably won't go over coma's 10 bucks each. I'm thinking enough for them to buy themselves some fast food should get it done. It's not like they're waiters who only make 2 bucks an hour...at least I don't think so.
I like you're style, man! I had some movers not show up on me too. They wouldn't return my phone calls either. I think they got a bigger job and didn't bother to let me know. I ended up having my friends do it. I tipped them with lots of beer.
George: She's bluffing, she's got it stashed away in there somewhere. Elaine: This is an absolute disaster. George: Oh, I don't know. Check this out. [George holds up a golden clock he had hidden in his jacket. ] Elaine: You stole her clock? [George smiles] Elaine: Well done. George: Yep, this one for our side!
Mayflower charged me $2,325.18 to move a 1 bedroom apartment from Houston to Austin (with packing). My company did eventually pick up the tab. Needless to say they didnt get a tip from me. Especially after 2 of the guys stunk-tified my bathroom of my new place in Austin. I dont know what they used for sh!tter paper, because I didnt have any in there at the time. I had to fumagate my place out for 3 days....... I didnt know that human beings could produce such a fowl odor.
Please tell me they wrapped every thing in your place and insured it too. Otherwise you got hosed... good thing your company paid for it.
here's a question, are we supposed to tip people at Sonic, just for them bringing our fast food to us? I do. but I am not sure others do.
