    The client:

    - 19 inch Goldstar
    - approx. 10 years old

    The setup:

    - cable comes out of wall, plugged into VCR
    - cable comes out of VCR, plugged into TV (VCR is only 3 years old and should be fine)

    The symptoms:

    - TV works fine for an hour or so, then inexplicably refuses to operate. Instead of getting snow, the signal reverts to one specific channel (Teletoon). Pushing the channel-up or down buttons do nothing (the channel number changes on the screen, but the channel itself remains on Teletoon).

    - if you turn the TV off for a while (several hours) and then turn it back on, it will usually work for a while before reverting to its screwed up state.

    - while in the screwed up state, it is impossible to watch movies or even play videogames. When you turn on the VCR or Playstation, nothing happens; it just stays on Teletoon.

I am assuming the TV is dying and must be replaced. Or maybe I'll bring it down to the TV repair shop first. However, if someone reading this knows a lot about TVs and recognizes what is going on here, I'd love to hear from you.

    Thanks for reading.

There are advantages to being a certified geek. I can watch my 'stros/rockets games while i'm "working" on research papers or programming [IMG]

That used to work for me, when as an 11-yr-old, I would perform pugilistic surgery on my tiny black-and-white Hitachi set in order to restore its audio.

Until the day when, instead of fixing the audio, I knocked out the picture too. [IMG]

It's a 19 inch TV, and its 10 years old? rH is right. It's junk, and it would cost you as much to fix it as it would be to buy a new one (as I found out a year ago when my old 20 inch set died). Repair shops ain't cheap.

I'm so amazingly cool you could keep a side of meat in me for a month. I am so hip that I have difficulty seeing over my pelvis.

If money is a problem, I've bought a couple of 19" TV's at a pawn shop for my kid's rooms. One cost $80, the other I got for $90.

It's a good, cheap alternative to buying new.

Have you tried banging on the outer casing with your fist?

    It always works for me.
