    Hey y'all,

I want to get a digital camera. Definetely a 5.0 Megapixel or above. However, I don't want to fork over a ton of money. 600 is about my limit. And the Sony Cybershot DSC-V1 is looking like my best option.

Is there anybody out there that knows of a better one that's comparable. Or should I wait awhile. I feel a little overwhelmed with all the variables.

    Appreciate any help.

What are you gonna do with a 5 MP camera?

Does the average user really need a 5 megapixel camera? I think 5 MP is overkill if this cam is just for home/personal use... I suggest getting a HUGE memory card or several small ones, a 5 MP photo will take some serious storage.

Let us know what you decide on...

also http://www.cnet.com has good info and price comparison guides!

Here is a link to a Amazon reviewer :

Personally I am looking for a 3-4 MP digital camera which does not have red-eye problems, which can auto-focus quickly, and which can shoot consecutive shots quickly. I currently own a CoolPix 2500 and hate it with a passion.

I am considering Minolta Dimage Z1 3.2MP Digital Camera w/ 10x Optical Zoom, though I don;t really need the zoom.

As I am about to purchase a digital camera for the wife for Christmas, I have been checking out prices via http://www.pricegrabber.com. Funny thing I found was that some web stores have a backdoor for pricegrabber. Pricegrabber directs you to a page which has the camera at the quoted price, but has the accessories marked up!!!

Have an older digital camera that takes a long time ( about 1 second ) from when you want to take a picture to the time it actually takes a picture. Otherwise it works fine. Dunno if modern cameras have this problem but if you can minimize this time, that would be a premium feature for taking action shots.

My only advice on digital cameras is to not let sexually active co-workers borrow it. You will be sorry.

Most consumers only need a 3.1 MP camera, and for that I would suggest the Canon A70.

The newest model in the line is the A80, but I personally feel it's overkill.

The Canon A70 (about $250) is the 3.1 MP camera with the best reviews, and I believe it's the leading seller right now.

The Can digital ELPH seres is great too. They're tiny, bost cost more and don't have the zoom capabilities of the A series.

Just buy a really large media card. It will likely never be big enough, but a large card sure won't hurt you. That's my advice having owned several over the years since they hit the market.
