I'm getting this second-hand, but details are sketchy. This happened in my hometown of Corpus Christi, well, that's where my parents live.

An 8th grader missed the bus going to a track meet, so the coach wouldn't let him ride on the bus back to school. WEll, as he was crossing a busy street, he got hit by a car and was killed. The car put on it's brakes, and allegedly, if the car would have sped up, the kid would only have a broken leg. You physics majors prove or disprove that for me.

Regardless, it's a sad story. Btw, it wasn't the coaches fault, just school rules or whatever. It's a silly rule.

I believe the force of impact would have hurled the kid through space, causing a few broken bones, while the brake would have clamped down on his leg, drawing him under the wheels. Brakes cause more damage in driving accidents than the impacts do.

zrb, that's what I heard also. I guess it also depends on how fast the car is going though. This is also related to why you should speed up when you see a deer. If you hit the brakes, it causes more car damage.

Don't make this a gun thread Roxran, you can still feed the kids after you hit the deer w/ your car.

    Mmmmm... roadkill.
