I know I have criticized people in the past for this same thing, this was on my former name here, some of you may know it. I'm not really a fan of posting personal stuff, but I feel this is not to personal and maybe some of you have gone through the same thing.

Right now I am a freshman in college, my first year is about up, I havent declared yet, but am thinking education. I have always thought about being a teacher, probably one of the main reason is because a lot of my family is in the education system in some way. I am not totally sure, but school the past couple of weeks have seemed real hectic, my grades were just a little bit lower GPA wise than it was in high school last semester, I dont know what I will finish with yet this semester since we arent done. I think I am probably doing worse this semester, at least it seems, but it seems like my life is crazy right now, I have 2 weeks left of school before finals week, and its been insane, with scheduling for next fall, assignments, and work. I got a test back in my history class today which I did terrible on, and we only have 3 main grades which are 2 midterms and a final. I am scheduled next fall to take another history course because at my college we are required as a gen ed to have two history credits, I still have the final in there which I am going to be studying like heck for it obviously, but if I were to do horrible and not pass, I cant move on to the course I signed up for next fall which causes more problems. I had a 5 page paper due today, I have a 6 page paper due monday, I dont know if i'm just not managing my time right or what. I just have had thoughts recently college might just not be for me.

Sorry for the long post, but has anyone experienced this, I guess I just feel real pressured and I'm just completely clueless on what I want to do with my life, I know a lot of teachers in high school say it's ok not to know what you want to do and what not, but it seems like i'm the only one. I know i'm interested in teaching, but I just don't want to get into it and decided I don't like it and have to be clueless yet again.

Any comments, suggestions, anything at all is appreciated

What you're going through is normal for a college freshman.

Just get through the year take a little time to enjoy your summer and you'll be OK and ready for next year.

You shouldn't know what you want to do yet. You're young. Get the best education you can and then decide. Pick a major at some point, you are young and still have a million options. Don't shut yourself down to one when you are only 19. Education is too balkanized these days anyway.

wait until you have a wife, 2 kids, a mortgage, 2 car notes, stacks of bills, a grandmother you support, a high pressure job and all the perks that go with post college life... then come back and ask for some advice on how to handle the pressure and schedule your time better.

relax and try to enjoy it. get help with the studies if you need them. you're young

Running an OOTP team is something every college student should experience.

Hell I'm 34 and dont know what I want to do with my life. However, all my spur-of-the-moment decisions have panned out pretty well for me.

Vanderbilt Neuroscience Degree >>>>> Nat Gas Trading for an Investment Bank. Go figure.

Dont sweat the major too much. Just keep up the grades and enjoy yourself. Make contacts on campus by being social. College is key for networking . And for gods sake, ENJOY COLLEGE!!!!Drink tequila out of the navels of 20 year old sophomore girls. Roadtrip often. Make sure you go to Spring Break in one the nastiest places you can think of.

Educators may be underpaid, but I have a hell of a lot of respect for them. Besides, the most profitable options trader on our floor taught 1st graders for 3 years before going to Yale to get his MBA.
