I have an ATi Rage Fury Maxx, dual processor, 64 MB Video card, an MSI 6309 MB, several sticks of SDRAM, a celeron 533 and a few other components left over from my last PC.

I'd like to put the stuff together for an upgrade to my mom's PC....she deserves something better.

Anyway, I can easily do all of these with Win 98 SE, but I'd really like to use Win2K. Unfortunately, the video card...the single most expensive item in the bunch....doesn't work with NT/Win2k. ATi basically admitted that it was too difficult to get NT to work with the dual processors and said that they would not provide drivers for it.

XP does work with that card though. In fact, it's running on it right now as I await my new GeForce2 Ti. Microsoft is supplying the driver. I'd love to put XP on my mom's computer, but......uhhh....licensing issues are keeping me from doing that. Ati was kind enough to identify the *.dll and *.sys files that XP uses. Seeing as XP is just a prettier Win2K, does anyone think I can take these MS supplied drivers for XP and make them work on Win2K?

Anyone know how to go about doing such a thing, or am I just insane to even think about doing it? I looked inside an ati *.inf file, and I'm starting to think I'm barking up the wrong tree.

I don't think you can do that. Unless the drivers are supplied as a separate download. If they are, then by all means go for it.
