My main complaint is I can't just check the box scores like before. It makes you open up game cast on the desktop, and that's an unnecessary extra window open.
It's fine. Too many crappy looking ads, but after so many years of internet browsing I hardly notice such ads anymore. I like how you can just scroll down to read all the related stories. For example, go to: http://espn.go.com/blog/houston-rockets/post/_/id/291/harden-puts-on-another-mvp-showcase And start scrolling down. It will have every Rockets-related article and when scrolling the URL will change to the URL for a direct link to that article.
I hated the old layout because the autoplaying flash video player on the front page would freeze my browser (firefox) a lot. New layout seems to work better.
I think it's cleaner and retains most of the information. Easier to read. I hated the video auto play on the old version. And they seem to have fixed that. So I'm happy. Plus Harden is all over it.
I'd like to see a filter added to the NOW section. That would be sweet. But this is certainly a website with enormous potential, in my opinion. Since everything is BIG, and full screen, they need to make sure all of their content isn't lost in the full screen. I'd like to see them play around with the add teams wiget (that block has so much real estate devoted to it, that they need to be able to pull in content that the user wants. For example, they could add a widget for Mark Stein's Power Rankings. And each reporter could have a widget. Right now it is just team specific. They could have a box score widget also. That would be cool if when you go to espn that your whole left side of the page is devoted to the people and things you like the most.
Have been hating the SI redesign since the debut, still not used to it! This x100!! I try and use the Disable Flash add-on in Firefox to limit it and turn off autoplay in my settings, but some of the stuff still gets through. So frustrating!
Man it's turrible, at first thought my browser stopped loading mid-page and left out all the grapgical design. Don't know what they thought when making this.
Used to be able to scan all the top stories at a glance, because they were all densely packed down the right margin, mostly headlines only. Now it's the headline, long blurb, too much wasted white space, picture or video still in a giant box. A mile of crap I have to scroll past to see the rest of the stories. If I want more Ill read thE story.
Everyone complaining about ads, just get AdBlock Plus. AdBlock Plus POOF, no more ads on the internet.
It's a pretty bad sign when they are already making changes to the design. They already got rid of news/now feature and they did away with the drop down menu in favor of the major sports nav bar at the top. I thought the news/now was a good feature. ESPN could have improved on the design without basically going back to the old navigation. They just got cold feet.
CNN and ESPN have adopted the "flat" aka "metro" design Microsoft has made popular since Windows Phone's release in 2010... however, the site looks terrible as there aren't enough contrasting colors. See the new msn.com or bing.com/news for how to do it properly. Oh, and CNN has adopted it too - and it as well looks pretty terrible.
Yeah, I didn't mind at first, but it seems harder to find the information I want. More searching and clicking. And I dislike "white out" screens in general. Need to wear shades to catch the scores now. Meh.
it all hard to see faint font to me.. there are a few sites that give me this problem. not really sure what is going on.. a wall of this is not pleasing..
