Anyone going to purchase this CD? I'm curious as to how hard-edged it's going to be and if it will be as good as Jane's Addiction and Ritual de lo Habitual.

I'll be picking mine up tomorrow. As much as it sickens me to have to buy something from a major label these days, I cannot resist.

I could wait to download it but then i would be going against what I normally do; buy it if I like it.

It's some pretty good stuff... I've had an advance copy for a while and I love it... of course, I'm a pretty big JA fan.

If you like JA, you gotta pick this up!

i like what ive heard too. ive been a fan since nothings shocking and this is still the janes we all know and love. of course, its not as good as the old stuff, but it still kicks ass over 98% of what out there on the radio.

anyone going to lollapalooza? ive read that they have been cancelling a bunch of them due to low tix sales. wouldnt mind seeing janes, but i couldnt sit thru all those other bands.

and did yall ever hear perry's solo album, "song yet to be sung"? it got no attention paid to it, but its really good. its more electronic/future world beat type stuff, but you can still tell that its him. much more admirable than that horrible dave navarro cd.

i was able to hear the whole thing yesterday.

at best, its a watered down version of the janes of old. no really memorable tunes. it lacks that zepplin-esque bombast and drug-addled mania of their earlier work.

they wrote the album in the studio and it sounds like it (forced at times, uninspired at others) i think that the sole purpose of this record was to have something to tour around.

its too polished. they dont seem to be taking any musical risks here. its simple paint-by-#'s stuff.

navarro's guitar solos are cool. perry's voice sounds suprisingly fresh (but his lyrics are not what they used to be).

to me it sounds like nu-metal, but better than 99% of that genre (that doesnt say much though).

they should start doing heroin like the old days and try to make another record.

dont let me scare you out of buying it (or at least burning it). if you were into them 10 years ago than you should check it out. it does have its moments.

by the way, during commercial breaks for king of the hill i saw them on carson daily. they played about 4 or 5 tunes, mostly new (or is it nu?). perry was out of tune (he always was though) and couldnt hit those high notes. they did do mountain song. i found the part where perry sung "cash in" very ironic. cash in...indeed.

ill stick to my sweet memories of the janes of old.

    HOLY ****!!

This is the best CD I have bought since Beck's Sea Change* Clearly Dave Navarro is a badass!

*"Hail to the Theif" does not count - we all knew Radiohead was going to come out with another gem.

jo mama hit the nail on the head. It's a good CD, but not great. I first bought Ritual de lo Habitual off a whim, not ever having heard a song by Jane's Addiction and was blown away by it. Strays does not blow me away, but it was worth the ten bucks I paid Target.

Overall, it's nowhere near as disappointing as RHCP's latest release. You'll hear some great grinding guitar riffs and Perry's howling and whiny voice. I would suggest buying it if you really like Jane's Addicition, but don't expect them to raise the bar any.

I saw them on Letterman and the song they played left me cold. It wasn't bad or good - it just didn't affect me at all. There was no real electricity in the music. I have a bootleg CD of an entire show from 1986 (one performance from this show - 'Whores' appeared on the Kettle Whistle CD) and they rock like nothing else. I think they really miss Eric Avery - he was the musical core of that group. But apparently the blood between him and Perry is really bad (Eric apparently hit on Perry's girlfriend early on and they fought about it for the entire existence of the band) and there's no chance he'll ever be back in the fold. The new guy does fit in better than Flea (who overplays on everything he does).

Nothing's Shocking (and later, Ritual de lo Habitual) was such an important record to me when I was 18 and it's sad to see one of my hero bands turn into such a boring act.

I like it, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you have the first 3 albums already and make them a regular part of your CD diet. The new songs are lame, but the outtakes are pretty good. The live performances are a mixed bag, although I think the version of 'Whores' is better than the one on the eponymous Triple X album. I'd say it merits 3 out of 5 stars.

I didnt even know they have another album; besides Nothing Shocking, and Ritual.

I'm 23 years old now, which means i got those when I was a very young lad.

Triple X I believe was released after nothings shocking and Ritual. It was a "local" release (or demo) in California and never had a national release until after the breakout of the other two.

They do a kick ass version of the stone's Sympathy for the Devil
