I used to live there and also stayed at the tenderloin. Not the best places to rep sf.

The sad part in all of this is that those bums represent how much of a iceberg sf has become from those who own land and make bank there and those who rent and share rooms just to become a server.

There are a lot of bums who stay out of sight, granted the more memorable ones share some sort of derangement or drug problem, but I'd equally venture most people ignore them as part of the environment.

First months there, I saw so much homeless but later grew desensitized to their antics. It was almost a natural process because you saw the same people doing the same things everyday and you wondered wtf happened that made them stop trying.

Anyways, the food there is a pretty good value. Plenty of places that beats Starbucks too...

What is most annoying is the sympathizers. The very rich people living in the Financial District or SOMA seem to have the most pity for these people. The thing is, they don't really live in the Tenderloin or Civic Center so they don't have to deal with all the crap that comes with homelessness. They can afford the sympathy. It is the working people who have to suffer the most.
