I'll take him when he stops being paid $14mill a year to play the most anti-rox basketball in the league and we are at risk of losing Dwight.

Here's the bbs reaction when Josh Smith signed with Detroit: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=240995

We weren't exactly crying in our beers. It seems like the sentiment at the time was that some people thought he'd be a good defensive piece to put next to Howard and shut down the lane. But people weren't too crazy about the idea of paying him $14m/season. And, it looks like Morey never much pursued that option anyway.

Now: Josh Smith isn't 3rd star material, so I don't think we can spend $14m on him on a long-term contract.

Salary doesn't matter, he use to shoot 45 percent from the field

we need his defence, he is a lot better than people give him credit for

    Coach killer.

Already got Malone fired, SVG will follow in next season.

And yet he's somehow still shooting 38% from the field. The majority of his shots are from 3-10 feet and he's shooting just 30% from there. He's shooting 59% from 0-3 feet (which is less than average for a PF) but takes only 29% of his shots from there! He just loves him some terrible jumpers.

He's just bad in every way. Maybe if he were getting paid $5 million per I could do it, but if we bring him in at that salary then that's it: that's our team. And that's not a championship team.

I'd love Josh Smith on this team. His role in Detroit will NOT be the same here. Defensively he's a PERFECT and offensively he'll need to scale back on so many 3's. Can you imagine a fastbreak w/ Josh Smith on side, Harden on the other and Dwight filling the lane? We'd easily lead the league in blocks for the next 5 years

If his shot selection could be improved, I tend to think someone would have done it by now.

Except defence and he is a great passer, i think he would thrive in our game plan because the Pistons is a half court offence as where ours is they try to force turnovers and run. A lot of how a player thrives is the system they are in, the Pistons system just doesn't suit his offensive side of things

he doesn't shoot many threes at all, which is great

it is all about the game plan, in a half court offence he struggles

Not really. Everybody wanted Dwight, and if signing Josh (one of his best friends) meant getting Dwight, then people were on board. But now, Smith would be a nightmare. Bad shot selection, and low basketball IQ. He can fly though.

Thats like wondering if Boykins could be 6'10" , or if Jesus could play a bad boy role.

Well even better. We don't run many halfcourt sets anyway. His role on this team will be primarily as a defender/shotblocker. His role on offense will be a slasher. At best, we're talking 3rd/4th option. The fact he can guard all 5 positions helps too. I'd stick him on guys like LMA in case we see them in the postseason

We're one of the best defensive teams in the league. Why would we need his defense?

Josh Smith is good friends with Dwight and is a good defender but do we really wanna start him over Dmo at this point?

I'd also like J.R. Smith and any other Smith around.
