I just bought a new computer online and I am going to be in the states in a few weeks for college (and I am picking up my pc). Anways, I want to buy a new video card and sound card when I get back.
I was wondering what do you guys recomend i get for a video card (mainly to play games) in the price range of $150 or less, but no more than $200.
The same thing about a sound card. I don't think my integrated video/sound is going to work for me. I am looking to get a 5.1 compatible soundcard. Looking at one by creative, but since you guys are in the states i was wondering what are the prices and deals in stores right now...and any recomendations, would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Uprising:cool:

Best video cards are made by ATI. Their RADEON series, either the 9700 or 9800 are top of the line.

Unfortunately they are also above your 200 buck limit. At least in most places.

NVIDIA has their GeForce series. The newest are the GeForce FX cards, and I believe you can find one under 200...though it is a slightly toned down version, and is comparable to the GeForce 4 cards (which came out before the FX). The high end FX card is as much as the RADEON 9800 card, aproximately.

I'd go - if considering your range - with a GeForce 4 4600 Ti. It's a good card, not the strongest, but will handle just about anything out right now well. And more importantly, you can find one in the 150 dollar range.

Great THanks for your input. I was considering one of the GeForce cards...I just didnt know much about them, because I bought a playstation a few yrs back, and hadnt kept up with the tech for computers, until recently. I remember when I bought my last video card. Vodoo 3 3500, or something like that...that was a long time ago.

Yeah, I remember that Voodoos were the thing not too long ago. The last system I built (before this one) had a Voodoo 3 in it, I believe. Ah...memories....

Anyhow, check out newegg.com for some ideas of prices right now.
