Interesting, I used to be an account manager for a DME company. I'm not sure what your chip is with me though...I enjoy doing it and that's all that matters.
After looking through the costs, I don't think it'd make a whole lot of sense for me to do it. Maybe if I had a Prius I'd be in on it. Still think it's cool though. I'll use it sometime.
Was talking to a friend who has used it twice now and says its great...sounds like a great alternative to a cab. I downloaded the app and created an account today.
yea, the $10 a week mobile charge is pretty lame. i've just signed up as a driver yesterday and still waiting on my background check to go through. i'll see how it goes as a part time driver.
I got a message today saying that you can use your own phone/data plan now, so maybe that would make easier and less expensive than $10/week.
I tried the Houston Uber out this weekend since I had great experiences with them in Chicago. Leaving my home to The Lounge at Abiza in Midtown off of Louisiana St. 5.88 miles I wanted to try out Uber XL going there to see what would arrive. Black SUV, very clean, awesome guy. $19.00 total. The cabs are usually around $20-$25. On the way home at around midnight I used regular UberX. Nice, clean new Corolla was there in 3 minutes. $11.00 to get home. MUCH cheaper than a cab and a much nicer ride. You can also view their location on the Uber map, see how far away a ride would be and how many cars are available (a LOT in midtown). You also see the face of the person picking you up and what kind of vehicle they're driving. After the ride you receive an Email with the total price for each ride plus something to rate your ride with the driver. Overall- VERY impressed. I'm done with cabbing it forever now.
i'll never use yellow cab again - i'm exclusively uber, usually uberx, and have been so since uber arrived in town. rarely have a tab more than $7, granted i'm in montrose and usually stay within 5 miles. when i was in san fran a few weeks ago we must've used uber at least a dozen times and rarely had a fare more than $12. hell, we ubered from sausalito to the financial district and the fare was $35. it would have easily have been $50 in a cab not including the ridiculous tip. regardless, it's just a much more enjoyable experience and significantly more reliable/less sketchy.
Just got an email saying they lowered uberx prices 25% again If anyone wants $30 off their first ride... http://uber.com/invite/82hk7
$30 off first ride? Shiiiiiii--- Cab rides are already $30 for me to go from home to downtown. Would y'all basically make nothing if I had $30 off or is it totaled for there and back? (~$60 for a cab roundtrip)
The more I see and read here the more I understand that the Cabbies are in real trouble So I understand their frustration. I wonder if it had any impact on Metro or the other local mass transit once it hits there. . . then the true test will come cause those folx have strong ties/politic clout. Rocket River
This has been running in other cities for a while now and they sort of resolved any issues between the two, especially in Chicago.
