Who is this guy? He seems like a total bad ass on the guitar but he's equally mysterious.. I became aware of him last year at Bonnaroo when he performed with Les Claypool (Primus, Frog Brigade, Oysterhead), Bernie Worrell (P-Funk, Woo Warriors), Brain (Primus) as Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains. This was one sick jam session and I was blown away. Next, I saw Buckethead on stage with GnR at the MTV Music Awards...

The following is a review of his performances at Jazzfest in New Orleans a few weeks ago..

    NOLA Jazzfest Buckethead Review

Has anyone heard his solo work? Anyone know anything about this guy? I can't figure out how to show his picture here but someone should post it...

The only things I know for sure are that he's from San Francisco, he's really tall, he wears a bucket from KFC on his head and he can shred on his guitar.. Buckethead definitely has to be one of the most interesting personas I've come across in music.

    I don't think I could play in a mask...

I wore a half mask for the Art Car Parade and I sweated my @ss off! I can't imagine playing a whole concert in a full mask AND a KFC bucket!?!?!? wacky..

    rockHEAD,

I've played an entire show in a teletubby costume and did a majority of a show in a paper mache full mardi gras type mask.. It was tough being the singer and all, but fun because it was something different and unexpected. Both times, I was drenched in sweat a lot sooner than normal..

    Name: Brian Carroll

Nick name: Buckethead, Death Cube K

    Birthday : Somewhere in 1969

    Hometown : Marietta, GA, USA

    Occupation : Lead Guitarist

Bands : Deli Creeps, Cornbugs, Praxis, Cobra Strike, Buckethead (Solo), Primus (Ozzfest 1999), Guns N' Roses

    Who is Buckethead ?

"That question has been puzzling scientists, fans, conspiracy theorists, Scully & Mulder (nope we don't care 'bout the guy...), and tabloid journalists for years. Some reports say that Buckethead is an android, possibly from another planet. Others say that he is just another alien. Conspiracy theorists have wondered if Buckethead is actually Steve Vai or Paul Gilbert in disguise." Buckethead plays with speed, precision and can play almost any style of music. He also knows how to play bass.

I have one of the Praxis albums and also an Arcana album done with Tony Williams. His spiel seems to be robo-shred - lots of notes played really fast and with great precision. However, he doesn't fall prey to playing scales - he does alot of atonal and chromatic lines.

Interesting player although he gets old fast.

When Brian Carroll first got a call from Axl Rose inviting him to join Guns N' Roses, he was nonplussed at first. He knew the band, of course, but it wasn't really ... his kind of thing, right?

Axl persevered, though. At Christmas he invited Brian over to his house. It hadn't been a happy Buckethead holiday up to that point: he'd really, really been hoping that someone would give him a certain hard-to-find Leatherface doll he'd been coveting as a gift, but no one had. Then he arrived at Axl's place, and Axl had that very doll — and he gave it to him. Brian took this as a sign ("He must understand me somehow"), and he joined the band.

He says he was raised by chickens....

I liked the interview I saw of him, though. He had a puppet, and made the puppet answer the questions he was asked.:D
