What I feared. Lin is untradeable and it forces the Rockets to lose Parsons instead :(

I'm not saying Spears is full of ****, but I think it's safe to say that this is either a smokescreen or flat misinformation.

Lin is very much available for the right price.

But if no one is offering a value that matches what he is worth on the team, then saying he won't be traded is a simple truth.

Marc Spears, like the majority of mainstream/paid NBA sportswriters, is simply passing along misinformation here. He doesn't have any idea what the hell is going on. His "source" almost certainly has ulterior motives. Jeremy Lin at $15 mil next season = NOT good value.

What? Lin average 13/5 , but makes $8 million. Why wouldn't you trade because the numbers don't match the $$$ expended?

It's right to say Houston isn't looking to dump Lin for nothing. He fills several valuable niches, and his leave would open up a few holes.

But at the same time, he's obviously also very tradeable.

I'd say his performance puts him at par with his salary of $8.3 million. He's performing.

The Rockets would still average out to give him 8.3 million per year if they kept him (and/or Asik). Unless you're referring to a possible lost opportunity to not have to pay him the 15 in the last year and only 5 and 5 for years 1 and 2. The 15 isn't a burden for the rockets, other than being a possible hindrance to trades.

Maybe it's me, but I don't see this tweet on Marc J. Spears's timeline. If you follow the link, the text actually says:

Lin would have more value if it wasn't for his ballon payment. If it was just $8mill a year teams would be interested, Teague is on a $8mill 3more yrs left, jack played horrible $5mill for 3 more years, miller $4mill basically quit on his team and all these guys are getting interest around the league. A team would take Lin now but it wouldn't be a good value return for us.

That's interesting... I went and looked at it when the post was first made, and it was accurate. It has changed since then.

    4. Houston Rockets (36-17; last week's ranking: 7): Houston would love to trade center Omer Asik, and a source said it is actively shopping Jeremy Lin as well. Both, however, have pricey contracts.

Teams can include cash in trades. If Rockets didn't include cash, they would have gotten Lin for $5mil/year. That's a bargain for a starting playoff PG. Morey should just throw in $7 million with Lin's trade to bring the salary down to $8 mil for next season. Morey is being greedy and it's biting him.
