I am guessing between 400-500 for a family of three. Usually cook my own food and pack my own lunch. We eat out one to two times a week.

I remember there used to a post about someone who spend 100-200 every day.

That's for groceries + dine out?

We spend $500 - $600 per month on groceries and I'd guess another $400+ on going out to eat for a family of 4.

    Way too much.

We're trying to control the spending by cutting out fine dining restaurants.

Not too much for a family of 4. Thats $250/mo per person. My wife and I spend roughly $600. Half groceries and half going out to eat.

I consolidate food, entertainment and fuel on the two Amex cards since they already take the full balance out each month; and it's in the $1,000 range. But I don't have cable tv, so I spend a lot on Amazon, Netlix and Itunes; especially since Time Warner internet started throttling on Pirate Bay and Graboid.

Man, y'all are good. I spend a little less than $550 on myself a month.

    Weekly average is probably about
    1-3 dinners out a week - $37
Eat lunch out everyday for work - $34
    Drink/Happy Hour on average - $6
    Breaktfast-out/Coffee Shop/Bakery - $6
    Between 1 & 2 lunches out on weekend - 11
    Groceries - $30

Would like to see the weekly breakdown of how some of you spend so little.

usually around 70-90 groceries. 20-40 eating out(one meal). That's it. Cooke every thing and bring left over for lunch.

We spend about 850-900 a month. Family of 4 and half. The baby doesn't use formula so that's a money saver. Going out, maybe 200? We always try to go during deals, ie.. Fuddruckers on their kids eat for a dollar night.

things like a 25 lbs bag of rice, loaf of bread, eggs, ham, black beans, pack of chicken or pork chops are very simple to cook and go a long way in saving money. i probably average $1.50 a meal when i make my own.

Sounds like you dont have to worry about kids is why. When i was single, yeah I was eating out every lunch hour, spending more ontake outs then on groceries.

But when you have others to feed, you start packing a brown paper bag with lunch in it.

I average about $400/mo and usually it's split pretty evenly between groceries and dining out/drinks. This is just for me and buying dinner for the g/f once or twice a week.

I bring lunch at least a couple of days per week and when I do go out it's rarely more than $7 or $8.

    myself, wife & 2 kids (6 & 7) - I take $100 cash to the grocery store each week - If I don't have the cash, I don't buy it. We eat out maybe 3-4 times a month, so $400 - $550 a month for a family of 4.

I know a lady that cooks a weeks worth of dinner for her family of 4 every Sunday night. They spend about $80 a week.

Eating out and eating pre-cooked processed foods will kill your budget, waistline and health.
