Here is the email I just got....is there some way to organize a boycott or protest of this jackass? My favorite part is in bold. Dear UT student, The Student Endowed Centennial Lectureship (SECL), the only entirely student-run organization that brings speakers to campus, would like to invite you to attend our Spring Centennial Lecture Program with Oscar-Winning Filmmaker and Best-Selling Author Michael Moore on Monday, April 14, 2003 at the LBJ Auditorium. I didn't even know there was a vote, but obviously 8,000 other people did. Probably advertised on posters or spam mail that I just didn't pay attention to. Why is it that the anti war people are concerned with the war and the rest are concerned with the anti war people? If we are fighting to liberate Iraq why should our liberations be supressed?
What gets me is that I would never have known what these "celeberties" think or say if it wasn't for people b****ing about it.
Conversly I don't support, but believe it's your right to do so. I do support the troops. Agreeing to disagree ain't that bad a concept.
I think an empty arena would be an nice welcome. I can't believe my student fees paid to bring this arse here.
Michael Moore? I had respect for him before seeing that clip of him at the Oscars. I'm just glad he got some boos. He's one of those "I-say-I'm-anti-war-but-in-reality-I-really-just-hate-Bush" celebrities.
Man, this thread is making me feel OLD. My freshman year (1979), I took the elective "History of Rock Music Through 1970". It was the only "A" I got my entire freshman year (boy were my parents proud). We had a guest speaker. It was Dr. Timothy Leary. He told a great John Lennon story. Lennon wrote "Come Together" for Leary's failed 1968 California governor campaign. The campaign was derailed when Leary was busted for possession of two joints. While in jail, Leary heard "Come Together" on the radio. After he got out, he asked Lennon why he had released the song that was meant for his campaign. Lennon replied "think of me as a tailor. Suppose I make a suit for someone who never picks it up. You think I'm going to let it sit on the rack?"
My girlfriend goes to UT. And i will surely be there to see what this guy has to say. And its free to why wouldnt you go.
And what the hell is wrong with that? Now that the war is on, are we all supposed to suddenly fall in love with President Bush? I'd like to boycott him, the butcher that he is.
Leary's motto for the campaign was "Come Together - Join the Party" and that's why Lennon wrote a song titled "Come Together" for Leary's campaign.
