    NBA TV goes to HDTV

    March 25, 2003
SECAUCUS, N.J. (AP) -- HDTV has arrived in the NBA.

NBA TV, the league' 24-hour network, will televise NBA playoff games in high-definition television.

The network, scheduled to carry up to seven playoff games, will also feature two regular-season games in HDTV, it said Tuesday. The games are Houston at New Jersey on Monday and New York at Washington on April 14.

Both games could have playoff implications. Yao Ming and his Rockets are vying for a postseason berth. Michael Jordan and his Wizards take on the Knicks, with both teams in playoff contention.

I've got HDTV through digital COX (the networks+HBO+channel 8) with a couple of the pay per view type channels also in HD.

What channel will this be on and will I be able to see it?

I guess this means I won't be able to watch Monday's game since I have League Pass through Time/Warner in Austin. :(

My understanding is that you have to have an HD "ready" TV and then get a convertor. In fact my cable guy said NOT to get a HDTV built in and not to BUY a box, but rather rent a box from them. Technology is changing too fast to drop dollas on it.

Basketball, or anything for that matter, looks amazing in HD. I watched the last Texas game in HD.

    Simply amazing.

NBA TV showed a few NBA games in HD earlier. I watched the Knicks-Lakers game in HD.

If you have DirecTv, you can get an HD receiver that works with hd-ready tvs. $350-500.

We had Direct TV for a while but dropped it for COX because it had less HD channels and didn't get the local HD channels and networks.

    Cox Communications.

    www.cox.com/

    Here's the digital cable link.

I'm unfamiliar with HDTV, but I do know that it is better quality, better picture, and that's about all I know.

How is it different from Digital Cable? Is it worth it?

    Thanks.

I know nothign about the technicals, but I can tell you that true high definition television is about the clearest, most amazing picture you'll ever see. Sadly, the only channel that came in when I still had my time warner HD box that was that "true" was a crap local channel with just pictures essentially (it might have been affiliated with the local channel 11). Now don't get me wrong, all of the other channels in HD are still much much better, but, you still don't get a lot of channels, which sucks.
