Did you catch this on national television? I thought at first that it was a stink-bomb thrown onto the floor but according to the commentators (Gorman and Heinsohn) it was odorless. At that point I thought that it was pepper spray, either released by some idiot prankster of accidently by a security guard. However security denies there being pepper spray, so we can only speculate.

The game between the Celtics and Clippers was delayed for nine minutes between the third and fourth quarters after someone sprayed an unknown substance behind the Celtics bench.

Immediately after the incident, team officials said it was ''definitely not pepper spray.'' However, the substance, which NBA security representative Paul Johnson described as coming from a ''mace container or something,'' irritated the throats and eyes of those closest to where it was sprayed.

It was clear something was in the air when the Celtics quickly walked away from the bench with their noses and mouths covered. Play was stopped as officials huddled with coaches Jim O'Brien and Dennis Johnson and team doctor Arnold Scheller at center court, where stopping the nationally televised game was discussed. Security was called to the scorer's table.

During the break, some in the sellout crowd of 18,624 made for the exits, while others waited to learn what happened. The Celtics gathered along the baseline until they were called back to the bench by O'Brien.

Yeah. I saw it live. But it didn't affect JR Bremer. He was still on fire after the "scary" incident. 25 nice points by the rookie starting point guard.

Hopefully they find out what occurred.
