    Maybe I'll ask some of my black friends that question and see what kind of responses I'd get. My guess is:

    And its not like I respond in a dick way when they ask the question. I typically respond with "I'm American, but I'm assuming you meant my ethnicity? Well then in that case I'm Bengali."

    :eek: For real, you're Asian!?!?!?! I SRSLY couldn't tell from your almost-perfect grammar in the OP.

    From what country is your family? :confused:

    How is it obvious that they know you were born in Texas?

    I never thought I was being overly sensitive... I thought I was just more annoyed then anything. But O well I guess I'm in the wrong here.

    When I carry out a conversation and ask me "Where are you from." And I answer with "I was born in Texas." And the follow up question is "What is your nationality?" I know they mean ethnicity but it still annoys me. Whatever.

    I guess you're just a subset of Grammar Nazi then.

    In fact, you should respond with that.

    "I was born in Texas, but by blood, I'm a Grammar Nazi."

    I don't get offended at all. I take pride in the fact that I'm an American regardless of where my grandparents immigrated from. I also take pride in the fact that they came over to a foreign country and gained citizenship the proper way. Couldn't have been easy considering they only spoke Chinese, it was the late 1930's, and they opened a business in Mississippi (of all places) and became successful with very little government assistance. It's a far cry from what is the norm in today's society.

    I'm proud of my heritage and happy to tell anyone about it if they ask my nationality.

    Guys if I was seriously offended and thought it was a bigoted question I would have posted this in the D&D not in the Hangout. Its just a minor annoyance...sheesh.

    the proper way to ask this question is to ask "where your family is from?" I do that regardless whether it's a guy who was born in Houston or if it's someone who just got to America yesterday.

    Why does it annoy you? Think-skinned? Just answer their question, man. :eek: Lighten up and play along.

    So... anyway... what's your ethnicity? :confused:

    Don't ask questions where you might not like the answers. If you are getting annoyed at responses on a BBS, I can see why you would get annoyed at a seemingly innocent question.

    It's pretty simple.

    Japanese = Talk about cars.

    Chinese = Talk about movies.

    Korean = Talk about Nail Salons.

    Taiwanese = Talk about movies.

    Indian = Talk about cricket.

    Paki = Talk about sports.

    Palestinian = Talk about taxi cabs.

    Iranian = Talk about hair gel.
