The Kings completed a multiplayer trade with the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, landing Patrick Patterson, Cole Aldrich, Toney Douglas and cash considerations in exchange for Francisco Garcia, Thomas Robinson and Tyler Honeycutt.

In addition to providing lineup flexibility and bolstering the team’s rotation, from defensive prowess to outside shooting, each newly-acquired player presents a diverse skill set.

Patterson – in the midst of a breakout season – is averaging career-highs in points (11.6), rebounds (4.7) and assists (1.1) per game, while scoring at one of the most efficient clips in the League from multiple areas on the court. Using his size and athleticism to face-up opponents, finish around the basket and connect on mid- and long-range jumpshots, the versatile forward ranks eighth among all qualified players at his position in field goal percentage (51.9) and 21st in three-point accuracy (36.5 percent).

No. 9’s outstanding true shooting percentage (57.1) is the highest mark on the Kings, while the fundamentally sound big man has committed less than one turnover per game (0.7) over the course of his career.

In addition, Patterson teamed up with DeMarcus Cousins on the 2009-10 Kentucky Wildcats to form one of the most formidable frontlines in college basketball, helping lead the squad to the top seed in the NCAA Tournament and earning First-Team All-SEC honors.

Aldrich – the 11th overall selection in the 2010 Draft – has demonstrated a strong interior defensive ability, along with exceptional shot-blocking and rebounding talent. In 74 NBA games, the mobile 7-foot center has averaged 8.5 points on 53 percent shooting from the field, 9.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per 36 minutes.

A two-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team selection at the University of Kansas, No. 45 set the school record for blocks in a season (125) as a junior. While honing his skill with the Tulsa 66ers during the 2010-11 campaign, the Minnesota native ranked third in the D-League in blocks (2.6) per game, sixth in rebound percentage (17.1) and 10th in rebounds per game (8.6).

On the offensive end, the big man has showcased smooth post moves and excellent passing ability. In 10 games in which he’s played at least 10 minutes in 2012-13, Aldrich has averaged 3.9 points on 60 percent shooting from the floor, tallying a season-high six points four times.

Fourth-year point guard Douglas – who has notched 8.8 points and 2.3 assists in 20.7 minutes per game in 224 career contests – provides consistent perimeter shooting and persistent defense. In 30 starts, No. 0 has recorded 13.5 points, 4.4 assists and 3.1 rebounds per contest while connecting on 39.6 percent of his attempts from behind the arc.

Capable of beating defenders off the dribble, as well as lighting it up from downtown, the Florida State product tied the N.Y. Knicks franchise record for three-pointers in a single game, knocking down nine triples on March 17, 2011.

The 2008-09 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, Douglas also utilizes his quickness and strength to pressure and frustrate opponents, averaging 1.6 steals per 36 minutes in the NBA.

“We are excited about the addition of Patrick, Toney and Cole,” said Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie. “They will add skill and depth along with the potential for a different look to our roster.”
