Just finished my move from London to St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands. Due to the preponderonce of cheap drinks and nice beach (es) I won't be posting too much on the board for the next week or so until I get a regular place and hookup. Wanted to let those who are backchanneling that I'm not ignoring you, and glynch and his crew that i'm not losing my vigilance for their sillyness.
Don't drink the rum....no matter how cheap it is. If you miss out on a chance to visit St. Croix, you haven't really missed out. Realize that you are now on an island that loves to be an island. Meaning, the residents have an island mentality. Customer Service? Forget about it. Things that you took for granted before will frustrate the hell out of you. Like getting your DSL hooked up. All that being said, it's now time to kick back and relax. That's what everyone else does there. Including the people that live and work there.
Hey all, Just reporting in from St Thomas. Cohen, yep the London office is gone. NY is still my base of operations so that should always be open. Glynch, if you are into beaches/water etc its a great place. Maybe a days worth of non-beach sites to see. The water is amazing and the weather only fluxuates about 5 degrees (day to day) although it gets cooler at night. There are several very nice resorts on the island. Pole, yeah some stuff moves slower, but after five years in NYC and two in London a slower pace will be just fine for awhile. Rocketman95, both. Permanent vacation. My wife was a lawyer at Fried Frank Shriver et al so had no problem getting a job here, and my business is all web and phone based, so no problems for me on that front. Overall: We've been in a short term apartment the first week. Moving into our new place tomorrow. Great view at the mouth of the harbor. We're right above the Marriott's Frenchmans Reef. Cruise ships come in and out of the harbor right by our house. Really cool at night when the ocean is pretty dark and the cruise ships come by all lit up. Beach is sweet. Been going for a swim at daybreak and in the afternoon with my daughter. Beers are cold. Conch is pronounced 'konk.' The stars at night....wow. More to come...
