So we all know that US didn't start selecting pros for the Olympics until the Dream Team in 1992. I thought it would be fun to put together the team to send over before then. Since '88 is pretty close to '92, I figured going with 1984 would be more interesting.

    My team:

    G - Isiah Thomas
    G - Magic Johnson
    F - Julius Erving
    F - Larry Bird
    C - Moses Malone

    G - Maurice Cheeks
    G - Sidney Moncrief
    F - Bernard King
    F - Ralph Sampson
    C - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

    F - Alex English
    G - Michael Jordan

Snubs: Adrian Dantley, Andrew Toney, an aging (but still good) George Gervin, a young Dominique Wilkins, pre-drugs John Lucas

Who are your picks? And better or worse than the '92 Dream Team?

Hakeem didn't become a US citizen until almost a decade after the '84 Olympics, genius.

Alex English. That's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Good list.

Really you don't need pros that year. The amateurs available were mind blowing:
    Starters:
    John Stockton
    Michael Jordan
    Chris Mullin
    Charles Barkley
    Patrick Ewing

    Bench:
    Karl Malone
    Waymon Tisdale
    Dell Curry
    Steve Alford
    Joe Dumars
    Danny Manning
    Mark Price
    Sam Perkins
    Terry Porter
    Chuck Person
Kenny Walker - for the highlight reel dunks in garbage time

Yeah, for the record the actual team sent over was:

    G - Steve Alford
    G - Michael Jordan
    F - Chris Mullin
    F - Sam Perkins
    C - Patrick Ewing

    G - Alvin Robertson
    G - Leon Wood
    G - Vern Fleming
    F - Wayman Tisdale
    F - Jeff Turner
    C - Joe Kleine
    C - Jon Koncak

Barkley, Curry, Malone, Person, Porter, and Stockton were among the 32 finalists who were cut.
