Sitting in a car for a long time could be interpreted as loitering, especially after hours...so he can be charged for that, hence the ticket.

Take it before the judge. If you explain to him that nothing bad was going on and you just did not realize there was a curfew for that park he could cut you some slack or even throw out the charges all together.

Something like that. If the judge talks to the officer he will get the whole story as the officer knows it regardless of what is written on the citation. I hope you were at least cooperative with the officer.

tell me what is so criminal about people sitting in one place for a long time? what is so undesirable and harmful about it?

i don't get the rationale behind the law.

Example: Drug dealers and thugs are hanging out in front of a corner store. Cop is called, but obviousely they won't do thier dirt while a cop is watching. Cop threatens to/or gives out tickets for loitering. Thugs/Drug Dealers leave the corner store.

so it's okay to punish someone before they commit a crime? sounds like a trial by suspicion and an infringement on freedom of movement.

Not if loitering IS the crime they are being punished for. The poster showed one of the reasons behind the loitering law.

Also, if you owned a business, would you necessarily want folks loitering in front of your store?
