This game is amazing. If you've played the older Metroids in your lifetime, you should get this game for the Gamecube. It is really Metroid in 3D...

First off, the graphics are really impressive. The atmosphere manages to pull you into the game and make you think that you're Samus. Occasionally, the pyrotechnics will be so intense that you'll be able to see the reflection of Samus' eyes in your visor.

The gameplay is much like the older Metroids. You'll see something that you can't get through yet because you're missing a weapon or item so you'll have to explore there later on. The controls are kind of tricky for aiming. It's not as smooth as it would be on a PC, but you'll get used to it eventually.

I've played around 24% of it and I must say, there's a nostalgiac appeal to it that I haven't felt in a long time. It's not your average game...

I have played the demo. I must admit, I might purchase a Nintendo Gamecube just to play the new Metroid. It is that fun.

I went and got it yesterday thinking it would be a really good game, and it turns out it's absolutely amazing. It's without a doubt the best GameCube game so far. There's so many times I see something and think, man that's just like in the first Metroid, only it looks a lot better. I've put in about 7 hours on it today and am about to go play it some more.

Just one more reason to love my Cube as much as I do.

Not to turn this into a generic Gamecube thread, but I hope Metroid Prime (which I'll be getting soon) is better than Star Fox Adventures. It took me like a week to beat the game, and I was disappointed at how easy it was. Nothing challenged me at all. Oh, sure, the graphics were great, but the gameplay got old really fast (keep pressing the "attack" button as fast as possible to beat an enemy... ho hum...). I also just finished Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (which I rented for fun). Took me 4 days to beat. Somewhat frustrating controls (at certain times) and easy-as-pie gameplay. Graphics were top-notch, though. Glad I rented it instead of buying it.

I've heard nothing but good things about Metroid. Can't wait to try it out.

I've heard it takes about 20 hours to beat it, maybe a little more. I've completed about 35% in a little over 10 hours, but you don't have to get 100% to beat it. After you beat it a hard mode is unlocked so you can go through it again if you want. The controls took me a bit to get used to but they work pretty well now. There are a lot of enemies that you just lock on and shoot at to kill, mainly in the begining areas. After a while the fighting gets more involved and you have to use different weapons and strategies to kill the enemies.

Metroid Prime is A WHOLE LOT BETTER than Star Fox Adventures. And this is coming from someone who liked SFA (SFA is good...a solid B to B+ game, but it's too easy, lacks soul and inspiration, has a nice but underutilized combat system, and has almost no replay value....I traded it in for Resident Evil Zero, and I'm glad I did.)

Anyway, Metroid Prime is without a doubt the best GameCube game to date...and it's the best game I've played on any system since Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It has outstanding visuals, great atmosphere, sounds great, has incredible gameplay and has some of the best level design ever. Most importantly, it successfully recreates the "Metroid feel" in 3D. The amount of polish and all of the little details that went into this game is incredible. The controls may take a bit of getting used to, particularly if you're accustomed to other control setups like Halo's dual analog, but once you get them down then they work extremely well. On the other hand, if you don't approach MP expecting it to control like a "typical FPS", then you'll probably get the controls down in a matter of minutes, b/c they're actually quite easy to learn.

Even though many first person shooters have jumping in them, hardly any of them...at least the ones I've played...pull off that aspect well. Metroid Prime is the first game played from a primarily first-person perspective (notice that I'm not calling MP a FPS, because it's not) that handles jumping successfully.

As for difficulty, the game starts off pretty easy, but soon it gets quite a bit harder. Right now I've put like 7 or 8 hours into it and have a percentage of about 20-25%. I just got the s**t beaten out of me by a certain boss. Speaking of bosses, the ones I've encountered so far are just incredible.

So far, I don't have any complaints about Metroid Prime.

Yeah, but does it have the old Brinstar theme? That is the coolest video game tune ever.
