The five players and two others were arrested and charged. The victim had minor injuries. "This entire situation has been both sobering and disturbing," college president M. Elton Hendricks said Thursday. "This incident is completely out of character with the mission and beliefs of Methodist College. What resulted should not occur in civilized society, and certainly not in an academic community." The school did not say who the five disciplined players are. One was suspended for the remainder of the academic year, and the other four were banned from college sports and ordered to perform community service, apologize to the victim and enroll in counseling. All seven men were charged Nov. 13 with hazing, and one also was charged with second-degree sexual offense. Methodist College is a private liberal arts school with nearly 2,000 students.
