Just to warn people I picked up a particularly malicious malware the other day from the BBS. This malware comes up as a Vista Security alert and asks that you register for Vista Security Package 2012. Then the Malware will claim that you are infected with all sorts of viruses and spyware and will block attempts to open other programs and disable Malware and anti-virus programs.

A friend of mine who works in computer security was able to fix it by going into the command prompt and restoring the computer to a restore point a week ago. He said that he had seen similar malware to this but that this version was tougher than the previous versions he had seen.

It looks like this malware is spread through Flash ads.

It seems most infections come from bad Google adsense ads.

They are easy to remove for the most part. Rkill and malware bytes, and unhide.exe if files go missing.

These suckers seem to slip past.

I've got Malware Bytes but the malware disables it.

That's what Rkill.exe is for. And safe mode.

I had this virus about a month ago. Safe mode, malwarebytes, spybot search and destroy, fixed.

That's what my friend thought but even in safe mode the malware was still active. He said this was a new variant that he hadn't seen yet but it was much tougher than previous versions. Basically it locked down the computer so everything went through Internet Explorer. He was saying that if this happened at his work they would probably just reimage the hard drive.

I've removed this one from PC's. Basically you just need to gain access to regedit. It's really sad how many people pay these scam artists...

I had the same thing happen to me recently. I first opened my task manager and shut the malware temporarily. Click processes on your task manager and you'll notice it, it'll be a bunch of random letters or a website name. The malware will run again if you open up any of your browsers. I ran anti-malware from a flash drive after I renamed it to something different and it removed the malware for me.

Not sure if that will help you but that's what got rid of it for me.
