    Many outstanding female singers- Ann Wilson (Heart), Debbie Harry (Blondie), Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Joan Jett, the one from The Motels, Suzanna Hoffs (The Bangles), countless others.

    I put Joni Mitchell and Crissie Hynde (The Pretenders) in a category above, primarily because they are excellent songwriters and wordsmiths. Ironically, their vocals aren't what you'd call aesthetically super- they're more eccentric or eclectic. But I have more CDs from those 2 female artists than any other, particularly The Pretenders. They're in my top 20 all time.
