    Pat Riley was the Rockets' first ever draft pick (the San Diego Rockets). The Rockets drafted Adelman the next year.

    Ah, perhaps he was scouting while Riley was a player. The NBA wasn't exactly what it is now back in '71. (He still had business cards with the San Diego Rockets logo on them. I lost it years ago.)
